I am trying to get another hunting trip together this year after this past years great trip to colorado. My problem is I can't take two weeks off this coming year to hunt. I owe my wife more vacation this time. Anyways, I was thinking of a mule deer and antelope bow hunt or muzzleloader hunt closer to the midwest then Colorado. Like maybe Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa. Does anybody have any good leads on some ranches or outfitters out there? I am thinking of only driving 10-15 hours instead of 24 from Ohio. If I can swing this kind of trip I will, if not then I have to wait until the following year and do a better trip, but I can't wait!!! Any help?

Thanks, Erik Beckett

E,

Glad you are already thinking about next year and planning ahead. You'll struggle to find a place closer than Colorado or Wyoming. This is especially true if you want to hunt both deer and antelope. Kansas and Nebraska have some good hunts, but you will be lucky to get a license in Kansas and there won't be an antelope either place for you. I'd suggest driving the extra hours and going to eastern Wyoming or eastern Montana. There are some good places where you can hunt both species in either state, and you'll have a much better chance of getting the licenses. By starting early, you can probably find a decent place to hunt, and probably get by on a week of vacation. Colorado is great if you'll settle for just a deer, but for deer and antelope, Wyoming and Montana have better license availability.

Good luck.

ICMDEER, thanks for the quick reply. I am open to just hunting antelope or mule deer either one. I just know from past experiences when I drew for elk and didn't apply for my deer tag, I saw the biggest deer I have ever seen. So if I can get another species tag I will be ready. Kind of Murphys Law in affect. I really think Wyoming Or Montana are going to be too far for me this year. I hate having to have stipulations on a hunt, but vacation time is important for me this year. I figure 1 day to travel and 5 days to hunt. If need be, I will settle for an Iowa or Illinois Whitetail Hunt, but I prefer Mule Deer or Antelope.

Thanks, Erik

e72,

could you save extra money for your hunt and take leave without pay instead of paid vacation? the extra money you saved would be used to pay the bills that your regular paycheck would have covered.

the company i work for allows it, if a person doesn't overdo it }>
