Anyone out in Monster muley land have any info on 6A south Archery Elk. I have 10 points and have been holding out for 9 or 10. Does 6A compare with 9 or 10? The odds on 9 and 10 are really getting tough. Any info would be appreciated, you can pm me if you would like. Thank in advance.

As with any elk unit in AZ, 6A south does hold just as big of bulls as 9 and 10. They are fewer and further between, but they are there. Many will say that nothing compares to 9 or 10, but those people have probably never been anywhere else. I grew up hunting 6A, and also 9 and 10 since 1996. I've seen some monsters in all three units. You will have to work harder for the largest bulls, but bulls 350-360 should not be too tough to find. You will probably have a very good chance at drawing that tag with that many points. Just do some homework and you'll find some of the big guys. I'd recommend it. If you decide, and do get the tag, just ask, as I'm sure there will be those willing to give info and advice on where to go, myself included.

It's Bush's fault!!!

been hunting 6a since i was a kid. and every year i see at least 1 really nice bull. Too bad i always get drawn for 2nd choice cow.

Guidided a muzzleloader hunter in 6A this year for elk and we saw some whoppers! I was absolutley amazed at the quality of elk up there this year. I live in Camp Verde and have hunted and grown up in 6A for most of my life but this year was awesome compared to most other units around the state for some reason. We hunted a 360" 6pt opening wknd and never could get him. Somehow he made it through the hunt and told my buddy about him since he had a client for the rifle hunt. The bull made it unbelievably to the 4th day of the hunt before they got him. He lived right next to a main road where there was a TON of people looking as well. I don't know how those elk do it sometimes. I got lucky and found a shed off of him while I was there and it's one of the best sheds I've found in 6A in a LONG time. It weighs over 13lbs and is probably in the 360" range if the other matched. We did go other places during that hunt and saw a couple other bulls in the 340-360+" range as well too. Like I said, I was amazed and can't wait to get a chance to hunt up there again soon.

I agree with Josh about 6A but offer this. If you have double digit bonus points and are applying for archery only, stay with 10, 9 and/or 3A-3C.

I agree with those points, go for the gold! I love 6A! Some good elk in there for sure. Now that I am no longer a resident I will put in for 6A again! I know it, so really enjoy it! Have 4-points this year, so will start trying soon!
