Hello MM members and vistors. Just thought i'd share some pictures of my wifes successfull elk hunt. It was a great hunt.
Started out New Years Eve, scouting. Season opener was Jan 01.
We didn't see much scouting. Snow on the ground, from the previous storm. There were a lot of tracks, deer and elk and many coyotes, which i was hoping to see. Wanted to take a few of them suckers out! Coyotes that is. I was thankful it stayed cold and much of the snow stayed around.
Then it was opening morning, we started out hoping that the day would produce more game than the day before. As the morning progressed we headed north of our usual area. As we started out on our hike we heard gunshots to the south of us. I was a bit discouraged thinking that whoever made the shot scared all the elk outta the area we were in. But we headed out trying to remain optimistic. We then headed out to usual area hoping that the elk would return. All we did manage to do was jump a couple of real nice bucks. It was late afternoon by now and we were starting to lose the light. We then decided to make our way back home. As we were headed out we spotted some turkeys roosting. That I thought was pretty kool. All my years hunting i've never seen turkeys roosting. Not much of a turkey hunter but my kids love to chase them, ha! Anyway that was our first day. It was cold that night, with a full moon.
Then next morning started out wondering where i was going to start from, stay in the same area or head in a different direction. I figured with my prayers been said The Lord would provide. The wife was wanting to do more hiking of the same area, which amazed me. I thought she would be too sore from all the hiking we'd been doing but i was proud of how she took in the whole experience. She was awesome. And as we headed out that morning, the temperature well below freezing, I began to get the feeling of a successful hunt. Sure enough, we were an hour into her hunt. One shot knock that elk off her feet. She went down like a ton of bricks. It was 745am and it was all over ... I wish! Then the real work began! That was the misses hunt. She was the only one to bring any meet home this year. Funny. She took her first deer with a bow and now this fine elk. I had an archery elk tag, rilfe elk tag and my son had his elk youth elk hunt. none of us were successful but my wife. I'm glad it all turned out like this. Of course we all know who got to gut the thing, hahahaha. I'm kidding, she was with me the whole way. We even managed to drag the elk into the truck, I wish i got pictures of that.

Well best wishes to all and Happy New Year too!

Mike

Congrats to the Mrs. and you on a fine looking cow. Now if I could only talk mine into trying that...

Awesome! I wished I could get my wife to hunt but will have to settle for hunting with my daughter. You are very lucky!
