Anyone have any words to share about this area? It appears they get some biggies out of here, according to the book. I have an ID tag this year and am starting my homework!

Thanks,

Ernie

LAST EDITED ON Jan-09-04 AT 01:18AM (MST)[p]take a look at the years those bucks came out of there. Hardly anything in the last twenty years. That unit currently has THE LOWEST buck to doe ratio in the state of idaho (6:100).

YUCK! There are 3 bucks total, from Adams and Washington county that came out in the 90's I believe.

I just talked to a bio in MT that says he's seeing 40:100 on some of his herds right now. His lowest count anywhere in his area is 20:100. Dang good.

that isnt true i got a deer every year but this one out of there and i know of lots of other people that got deer, not big ones but bucks none the less. and i dont think the buck to doe ratio is very accurte you go down to hells cayon right now in the winter and you will see a heck of a lot of deer and some nice bucks.

I may be wrong but I think the buck to doe ratio is mature bucks to does....that isnt including all the little spikes and forkies..or young bucks like that. I could be wrong though. I have hunted the area the last couple of years. I havent shot anything in the unit, but that doesnt mean that I havent seen any bucks. All the bucks I have seen have been way to small to shoot and way to far off the road to even think about shooting. I think one of the biggest downfalls of the unit is all the stupid ROADS. Roads are probably the biggest problem in about every unit in Idaho. just my opinion

Sorry but it is true. That number was quoted directly to the big game manager for those units. That area has become one of the sacrificial lamb units, very sad to see.

i agree with young buck there are too many roads. thats one of the biggest problems. if you close the roads for two or three years there will be some big bucks.

Unit 22 stinks, keep looking theres only half dozen units in the state worth a toot for finding quality mature bucks. I don't even go deer hunting unless I get drawn for one the better tags.

Yea flea_bitten where are you from are you one of those road hunters that wont shoot it unless it stands in the middle of the road? you can find plenty of good bucks in general season but you got to look and hike and scout, not drive around on paved roads somking a dubie.

I'm from Nu Acres Young buck. Idaho muley I don't know what you call a good buck, 22-24 inchs......not my standards, theres only 2 types of bucks the ones that make book or the ones that make the crockpot thats it. Everything else is just a rack of horns to me. Seems kind of funny on my first post in here, your calling me a road hunter and a dope smoker, get a life would you. So what if I say unit 22 stinks, it does IMO.

yes nu acres is close to parma, closer to fruitland , right across river from nyssa, no I don't shed hunt, spend my time on other hobbys.

Sorry didn't mean any harm flea, iam just tired of the dang road hunters on this site. i consider a good buck 27" and on. what units do you put in for flea? you ever hunted 45

Hey flea_bitten....have you drawn 42? my friend drew it two years ago and I went with them for a few days...We didnt see any big bucks where we were hunting...but I guess my friends dad shot at a pretty good buck and either missed or made a bad shot.

No I have'nt drawn only put in a few times, I see your last name is jennings, any relation to the jennings around fruitland like dave jennings, he use to or may still run carlot there next to the texaco.

Yeah Dave is my grandpas brother....so great uncle? My dad is Terry....and i am pretty sure he is still running the car lot. How do you know him?
YB

Dave use to work for my dad down at May Trucking Company in payette, there still good freinds of the family.

Hey flea you ever seen any big ones in 42 i put in for twice and never got it. i have seen some hogs down by duck valley res.

Yup I have seen a few whoppers in there, even have hunted the late muzz hunt in OR and seen some whoppers that migrate off the west end of that unit into OR.

I think i will put in for the late hunt down in 42. is there a late muzz hunt or just a rifle hunt do you know

There is only a a rifle hunt in unit 42. The regular season is forked horn only and the late buck tag is any buck...There are some monsters that roam in between unit 40 and 42...it is catching them in your unit that is the crappy part. When my friend drew 42 two years ago..all the bigger bucks that we saw werent even in unit 42 they were in unit 40.....but I think 42 is probably easier to draw than 40...luck is everything!
