Wyo unit 60 archery

Myself and a friend are planning an archery elk hunt. First week of sept. He talked with an outfitter in unit 60 and he seems pretty excited. 7 day hunt, 27 miles in on horseback. How is the early hunt in 60? What's a realistic bull with a bow? We're both 34 yrs. old and we farm for a living on the east coast. So we're both in pretty good shape. He's never killed an elk (he thinks he's jinxed), I've only killed 2. One with rifle the other with muzzleloader. How bad are the bears and wolves in 60? Any info will be greatly appreciated.

He talked with someone from Yellowstone outfitters. I now it wasn't the owner. Looking at the draw results from last year, even after the draws and the leftover tag sale, there was still archery tags left for 60. Not sure why. 27 miles in, bears , wolves, just too tough a hunt with bow, rifle starts sept. 10, so why go with a bow? Worries me a little, don't want to bite off more then I can chew. On a side note. I've been trying to talk to outfitters the better part of 2 weeks and I'm having one hell of a time getting anyone to answer the phone or call me back. I would think they would be a little more accessable during an app period. What gives? Tractorred did you bow or rifle hunt?

Plenty of wolves and bears in 60. The wolves won't bother you. The bears probably won't either, unless you get an elk down. Then you might have some company. Early season, you'll be hunting local elk. The migrants don't come out of Yellowstone until some weather gives them a reason to leave. 5's and small 6's are the norm during the early season. The peak of the rut is usually the 17th through the 22nd of Sept. Being a farmer is nice, but doesn't mean doodly squat as far as hunting goes in the Thorofare. The altitude is what will get you. It takes about a week to get use to 9000' - 10,000' altitude. Ever been on a 27 mile horse back ride? Yer arse will be hanging out so far, that by the time you get to camp, you'll be able to cut washers. Give Grant a call at Pass Creek Outfitters if yer undecided on an outfitter.

I agree with Triple_bb, call Grant. His archery hunt last year was great. I don't think they harvested but the bulls where talkin' and comin in. I helped him take camp in and saw 15 bulls in there.
