CO pp dilemma

I have 1pp for mule deer and 2pp for elk going into this years draw. Do you all think I'd be better off savings up more points or utilizing these points and putting in somewhere with a decent chance of getting drawn? If so, which one, mule deer or elk? - not asking for specifit units here. I'm really wanting a great experience and hope to tag something presentable. I'm from TX and looking for my first out of state hunt and can't wait much longer!!! - I'm too anxious.

A lot depends upon the quality animal and hunt experience you want. Units that take higher pts to draw tend to have better quality animals and not as many hunters...which isn't always the case though! Quality of animal, quality experience, number of other hunters, amount of public vs private land, time of year, weapon of choice, high alpine wilderness vs pj/sage, etc are all things to consider when trying to figure out which unit, season, etc to pick. If you've noticed some of the controvercy with Colo landowner tags you may also want to consider that the CDOW can change policies and regs which may or may not make drawing tags tougher in the future.

First off what is presentable in your eyes? Rag horns? That is what is shot in the easier units to draw, if you even get that oppertunity. Sure you hear of someone harvesting a presentable bull and you hear of someone winning the Loto! To be honest, with 2pp for elk to draw a good unit like 66 or better you will be many years getting there and might very get drawn! There are no garranteed tags to non-residents. Sure, there might be a few honey holes left. Good Luck!
