Saw this guy today @ 11:30. About 120 yrds off the freeway. I had some strong backlight so he isn't real clear.
Some of you would pass him, but I would definatly shoot!

Good picture. Thanks for sharing. Was this picture taken in Utah? He's not a bad buck to put a general season tag on.

Pretty buck, nice picture. Now, that pic wasn't taken from 120 yards was it??

BLACK TIMBER

YOU SURE THAT WASN'T TAKEN IN YOUR NECK OF THE WOODS???

THE ONLY bobcat WANTING TO SEE A NICE 'RACK'!!!

Hornseeker, that is my guess. The picture above was 36X (12X optical + 3X digital)
Hand held too. That Image Stabalization is the chit!

Blacktimber,
I'm assuming you shot the digital photo with your new Panasonic Lumix camera, right? How are you liking that model since you purchased it? I'm on the brink of getting one myself and the only thing holding me back is a slight concern about the "soft" focus look of most of the photos I'm seeing taken with the camera. It may just be me but the pics all tend to look just a bit...I'd almost say a shade blurred? Do you see that or am I just expecting too much? I'm down to choosing between the Lumix or the Olympus C750 and would appreciate any comments you'd like to share about your camera.
Thanks,
Jim

Wow, that is pretty impressive to me. I know the C750 takes good ones AZsnorter. I had someone send me some sample shots and they were real good.

Have you guys looked at the new fuji with 10X and 6mp for like $399?? I'm wondering about that thing?

Hornseeker, I hope you don't mind but I lightened up your photo a bit so you can see it a little better. That's a nice buck and a pretty darn good picture as well! Here it is.

A young deer but with some potential, I would definately pass on him but the trophy is in the eye of the beholder! Great pic!

AZbucksnort, I do see that "softness", is that supposedely normal for that camera?

I looked at the camera today. I did not know it has a 2.8 Leica, and 2.8 from bottom to top of zoom too!

Azbuck, Yes I know what you are talking about by soft focus. I saw that too when looking at this camera. After some research I found out not to compare or make the deciding factor on this alone. Evidently almost all upper end cameras take "soft" pics.

Now I have also noticed that in the cameras menu there is a sharpness setting. soft, standard and sharp. I haven't played around with this to see how much difference it realy makes.

Also, if you get photoshop or photoshop elements you can adjust the sharpness of the pic.

It can take sharp pics, you can see individual hairs on my dogs head in this pic.

All in all I am very happy with the camera. The onlything I would change if I could would be the bulk. I won't be able to carry it in a shirt pocket but then again to have a leica 2.8 throughout the full focal range is impressive.

BT,
That is a fine pic of your Labrador Retriever. His face captures everything that is so wonderful about this magnificent breed of dog. I do see the individual hairs and also the detail in the weeds around and in front of his muzzle. Yet, I still see what almost looks like a "silky film" to the photo. There was an older TV program back in the '80's called "Moonlighting" that launched Bruce Willis' career and revived Cybil Shepherd's. They used to claim they shot her closeup scenes throught silk filters to "softener" her looks. That is almost the same effect I detect in the digital photos.

Deer King was kind enough to send me an email pointing out that the soft focus look is a fact of life with digital photography and the photos do come out crisp when printed onto print paper. I'm sure playing around with the settings could improve the focus look as well. In the end, I'm going to get the Panasonic. I handled one at a Ritz camera store in Flagstaff and was impressed. The camera may be a bit bulky when compared to one of the little flatty digitals but it's not heavy and the features make it very desirable. Where have you all found the best deal as to purchasing the camera with all the software and the USA warranty?
Thanks,
Jim

Nice pic of your dog, I love labs. Have a chocolate myself.

I have been reading reviews the last couple days on several cameras. There are some cool review sites out there. I'll share them here. I'd like to continue this discussion about the digicams, cause I am probably going to buy one within a month or two.

This ling is for the FZ10, but you can also get all his other reviews from this pages menu area.

http://www.dcresource.com/

This guy does very thorough reviews too. Both have links of where to buy cameras too.

The other cams I'm interested in are the Oly C-750 and the Kodak DX 6490. I think from reading both of these reviews you cant really go wrong with either of these cameras.

Do you guys know if you can get the 2X converter or the wide angle converter for the Panasonic? I'm sure you can, but I haven't seen it yet. I also haven't read every word of those reviews, its probably in there.

Yeah, the quality definitely goes down, but if you had abuck or bull WAY out there that you wanted to get a pic of it would be a good deal. Also, if you can set up on a tripod and be real steady I think the quality will be good enough. I also think the converters, if made to Leicas standards, are probably pretty good. That would bump you too like 600+mm with a 1.7 converter, 840 with a doubler.

Keep us posted on the pics it takes, I'd love to see more.

Here is a pic I took this morning. This pic was taken through a window with full 12X optical + about 1.5X of my digital zoom. I try not use the digital zoom as much as possible because it takes that sharpness off. But I used it to crop the leaf how I wanted.

Black Timber,

Great pics....on that last one(the leaf), what setting are you using......Im still playing with my Lumix to learn all the ins and outs of it....but I love it..!!
