Cost of a public land guide?

I know the range of comments and thoughts for this question will be all over the board, but I do need some good answers so that I know I'm not getting ripped off. How much do most guides charge if you draw a LE elk tag, 1x1, public ground? Are they worth it? Thank You.

Todd,
You're looking in the neighborhood of $3000-$4000 for a 5 days guided hunt which includes food and lodging. If you are just looking at a "guide" or someone to call and find the elk it could be cheaper. Is it worth it? I would say if you don't know the are and don't have time to scout, a definate yes.

I wish I was. I put in for every buck and bull tag they offered and came up nada. I am anticipating finally drawing this year, if everything stays the same from last year. I hope I didn't just curse myself.
