I wacked a big cow on Monday. I had a late season tag. This last little bit of snow in Northern Utah finally made the elk leave the high country. I still had to hike a long way to get to them. But it was worth it. I will post some pictures soon.

This is the second elk I have killed with my 300 WSM. I shoot 180 gr. SST bullets. Both elk have gone less than 10 yards with one shot. I love this caliber. It is an extremely flat shooter and carries one heck of a punch.

Thank you.

On the first elk I did hit bone and a lot of it. On the elk I just shot, I did not hit any bone. The SST went right through both lungs. The way that she went down so fast I figured that I had hit the shoulder blade, but I didn't.

I still have my late season cow tag for 503. went twice notta. imagine that. Hunt ends the 31st. I am working on walpapering my wall with all the non cut tags I have.

Hey Jeff, it's Stefan. I just wanted to tell you we took a cow out of there the Sunday after you got yours. We got it on the same hill, just further east. They were bedded in the cliffs and mohoganies near the top of the middle ridge. We also had to hike our butts off, but it was worth it because my brother harvested his first elk. He was more excited than a kid at christmas. It was awesome! He shot it at 322 yards with a .300 Winchester Magnum. The cow didn't move an inch.

Hey Jeff, I am looking for a new gun. It sounds like you would recommend the .300 WSM. Where did you pick yours up? Is it a Christensen Arms? Shoot me a pm or an email. Thanks.

I have some pictures and for some reason can not post them. Can I email them to someone to post for me?

Thank you,
