Hey people! I'm looking into hunting along the border between eastside and westside elk in 07 for early muzzloader season in washington. I'm very interested in the area from white pass all the way down to MT. adams. I don't getta scout much due to summer baseball and travel softball with the kids so if someone could just help out with a starting point I could work on it from there. Help and many thanks CD

wow I had no idea? That rimrock area is what really interests me! what it's only open for late season? I'd be hunting the west side of the border.

No, it's not even open for late muzzleloader. You'll have to hunt with a bow or a rifle if you want to hunt there. There is a muzzleloader permit for Rimrock during the early muzzleloader season, but there are only 16 and over 500 applicants. The Cowiche unit to the south is open, and so are most all of the units on the north side of highway 12.

Rimrock would be spike only. Is that something you'd be interested in? On the west side of the pacific crest trail, there should be some good bulls in the Goat Rocks Wilderness or the Mt Adams wilderness. There are guys on here that know more about that country. Maybe they can help you out. But I do think you'll want to plan on buying a west side tag, unless you're willing to hunt only spikes.

There is an early muzzy season but its south of where you are interested in. Your looking at area closer to Trout Lake at the southern base of Mt. Adams running down to the Columbia river.

I hunt archery elk in rimrock and the last couple years have been slow at best ..not very good numbers. It did get better in the late season.good luck

Is'nt 513 (Carlton) open for muzzls Oct 7-13th? It is a west side unit North of Hwy 12 with 3 point or better bulls legal.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-19-07 AT 04:11AM (MST)[p]You should open a set of WDFW regs, figure out what's open; weapon type, early or late season, bag limit and then ask for info/help. All of this info is on the WDFW web site.

South Rainier early muzzle up by White Pass gets hit pretty hard, that's the area that encompasses the carlton area. Lot of guys backpacking in and horse packing in.

If you don't mind shooting spikes, hunt eastside muzzle and put in for special permits. It's pretty hard to go wrong on most of the eastside permits. Any of the southeast and most of the yakima herd tags are excellent. The coluckum herd tags have been getting cut the last few years, but still have great bulls.

The archery hunt in Rimrock is open for spikes & cows. How many pp's do you have? It doesn't take many to draw rimrock archery. I know guys that draw with as little as 2 points. Good luck.
