I want to take my son on an elk hunt in a premium unit in NM. We are both experienced hunters. He is 20 and this will be his first bull. We will apply for the mobility impaired draw, but want info for unit , guide and success on better than 330 bulls. I will forfeit my hunts so that we can experience this together. Thanx

Unit 34 hunt the rez boundry if you can find an area thats not lined up with outfitters or hunt the lower portions of the unit plenty of big bulls in the 330 range . Lots of thick cover makes finding the tough . Seen some monsters down low even in summer where cover is much thinner.

I dont post on here often but I read your post and thought I should tell you the unit in NM if you draw!! Especially for a mobility impaired draw! Unit 16A is by far one of the best units!! Lots of roads and tons of big bulls!! Dont need to get out and walk too much to be right in the middle of the action!! Hope this helps!!

are you deadset on new mexico? because i have a friend who professionally guides only disabled hunters here in utah and he gets premium tags donated to him, if youre interested his name is Mark Robison and hes done more for disabled hunters and there rights in utah than anybody. you can reach him at 572 1700. also if youve seen the Mossback videos for deer, the 2 handicapped hunters that get the nontypicals are his clients.

Thank you gentelmen. We also know about the opps in Utah for dis-abled hunters. We plan to apply for 16A, 16D, and 34 in that order. I just want to find a way to assure the hunt by having a landowner permit in my hands.

I know this is an elk forum but would you and your son consider a MI hunt for Antelope here in NM as well? Drawing the MI elk is tough but odds in the MI Antelope Outfitter Pool are good. I'd love to help you out there..... Jim ([email protected]).
