Hey everyone,

I am looking for some info on Idaho's McCall Elk Zone. Any information on general areas (no one's hot spot of course) would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I used to live in McCall and elk hunt around there alot. I have heard that the population has dropped due to the big bad wolves, but thats the same problem here in MT. I don't mind telling you where I have harvested elk and used to hunt. North of town on warren wagon rd. I used to hunt alot up twentymile crk., and summit lake area. I have hunted alot of areas around McCall and have found that these two areas were very good to me. and not far from town. I used to hike in 2 to 3 miles in both areas. Sometimes a mile was far enough. The elk around there used to talk alot.
If you get serious about going up there let me know and I will get more specific.
My Dad and I still go up there in the spring to fish, payette lake (McCall is built around this lake) and catch alot of 15-30 lbs. mackinaw. Lots of fun. I have pic's if interested.

Take a look at Mud Creek, Little Mud Creek, and Round Valley Creek drainages west of New Meadows. Lots of elk there, but expect to see plenty of other hunters as well.

I am interested in the fishing at Payette Lake, When and what to use thanks.

I hunted this unit the first two seasons here in Idaho(I've moved here 3 years ago), and I can say there is alot of elk in the unit but the wolves have them skiddish and if you rifle hunt they get alot of pressure by the time general rifle rolls around. I big help there is snow. The past few years the Oct 15-Nov3 season sometimes can be warm/dry.

I have hunted up the same Warren Waggon road near burgdorf. I also hear alot of elk are killed both west and east of Lake Cascade. Call fish and game, they can certainly help.

Good Luck!
