OK, been saving for a couple years now and was hoping for info about the best big bull permits for Oregon. Hunted washington all my life this will be my first outa state hunt! If I draw!!

Thanks for your help CD

How many points do you have? You'll need at least 3 to get into any decent units, the more you have the more options it will open up.

CD, in my opinion a 350 bull is unrealistic in Oregon unless you have max points you may have a shot at a couple of archery permits on the Washington border. Brian

Your only chance at a 350 bull in Oregon with 0 points is if you hunt archery and measure your score in pounds not inches. Good luck.

300 bull is obtainable in oregon during archery general season. By over the counter tags and A LOT of great areas, if you know where to go!

You would be better off going to Idaho, they have much better elk hunting from what I understand and OTC tags too. Unless you have a spot that you've hunted for years and you know like the back of your hand you will not find a 300 inch bull to kill by taking a shot in the dark and coming here to Oregon.

How about two NR's with 6 points each. Been building points hoping to get enough for a bow hunt in a good area with chance of 300 or better bull. Thinking maybe MT Emily or another northern unit. Want to hunt togethor too which limits our chances some. Tks nwhunter

You're on the right track looking to the harder draws in the NE part of the state. while you could find a 300+ bull in many units the chance is slim enough you shouldn't take it serious. with 6 points you might be a few years away from a better tag but it would be worth waiting in my opinion. I hunt in most western states and to be frank by comparison our hunting in Oregon is not too impressive. just decide what you want from your hunt, wait until you can draw the right tag and you shouldn't feel too ripped off.

well I put in for spring bear in Or. every so I have to buy the non-res lisence for that. I might as well build points. What about the eaglr caps for elk?

Kind of what we figured maybe two more years and then cash in on a descent hunt knowing its not Utah/ Arizona but a better than average chance at a 300 bull. Also close to home,Wa State, so thats worth something too. Just playing the points game and hope its worth it in the end. nwhunter

Creepingdeath, how many points do you have. I would suggest getting on the ODFW page and looking at the point summaries. This will tell you how many points you need to draw a tag (roughly) The eagle caps have some good elk and I believe the elk rifle hunts in the Minam are undersubscribed so you could get a tag with no points. The imnaha would take a few points. Talk to some of the packers in the area maybe about the area and elk, also call a biologist to see what areas hold more elk.
