Utah non-resident tags = XX%. Just wondering if you know what % of tags go to non-residents for elk tags.
Thanks.
cold dead hands

In the last few years Utah has only issued about 7.5% elk tags to NR's (147/1952 permits). This year will be less due to the convention tags (half of those 51 elk tags will come from the NR pool. That means NR will get about 6% of the tags (121/1952).

This is partly due to the splitting of the elk tags for each unit into 5 hunts (archery, early, muzz, late, premium). Now the # of permits for most hunts is so low that NR don't get any.

Utahs draw system really sucks!!! Figure out a way to increase the opportunity and decrease the harvest success!!! It's not rocket science. Take most of the rifle and muzzleloader hunts out of the rut. And give the public their tags back. Take lessons from Arizona. Please!! Keep going the way it is and maybe Moss and the boys can kill 17 to 20 bulls over 400gross next year instead of just 16. whoopdi doo!!!! What did the rest of the public kill this last year? Anybody know? I'll bet it didn't come close to 16.

Although I am one of the "boys", I will still respond to your post.Over on the DWR chatroom there is a thread on increasing 'opportunities' for elk hunters in Utah. It's a good read fo rthose interested.

There are plenty of hunts that have 10 or more resident tags but still do not give out a nonres tag. So, the 10% thing is really not true for any unit.

Utah sucks for non-resident hunters. I also feel sorry for the people that live there. Another bad thing is you can have more than one wife in some parts.

Not legally.... And the ones that do have more than one wife have a bteer chance at drawing a tag because they put in for all of them ho's

It really depends on how you look at the numbers, but non-residents did not get 10%.

From the info that I have LE bull elk tags for 2006 where:

1910 Total tags
75 Conservation 3.9%
147 Non-resident 7.7%
1688 resident 88.4 %

If you just look at the total resident v. non-resident

1835 Total tags
147 Non-resident 8%
1688 resident 92%

fd!!!

IF YOU WEREN'T SUCH A TIGHT ASS!!!

YOU'D TAKE SOME OF THAT BEER MONEY!!!

AND BUY YOU A NON-RES UTAH PISSCUTTER ELK TAG EVERY YEAR!!!

WHAT DO YOU LIKE BETTER???

YOUR BEER???

YOUR 200 LBS OF ELK MEAT???

OR TO RUN YOUR MOUTH???

THE ONLY bobcat THINKING YOU NEED TO QUIT YOUR BEACHING,SAVE YOUR CANS,COME TO UTAH & BUY A L.E. ELK PERMIT,THEY ARE AVAILABLE,YOU WILL NEED YOUR CHECKBOOK THOUGH,THIS IS OPPORTUNITY FOR THE OPPORTUNISTS,OH AND ONE MORE THING,BRING schmalts WITH YOU,NOT THE KIND YOU DRINK THOUGH!!!

REbessTARD - I'm not a tight ass and I'd rather hunt in MT or CO. I have no use for UT beacause of the tards like you that live there. By the way, I like all three. I don't know Scmalts but at least he's funny not a jacka$$ like yourself.

Whine, Whine, Whine,

If you think its hard to draw a tag in Utah, try Nevada. Furthermore, Utah doesn't charge $140+ for a bonus point.

Bobcat Bess is right, if you really want to hunt elk in Utah and you don't care about seeing a 400 class bull around every tree, there are plenty of tags for the general "any bull" or "spike bull" hunts.

Its tough as a nonresident, no matter what state you live in. If they don't make it hard for ya to draw, then they charge an arm and a leg for a tag, or both.

Anything wrong with a little "whine" once in a while? I thought that's what this board was for. Besides, I have heard that the squeaky or whiny wheel gets the grease. Perhaps if we poor NR's whine, they will pony up and give us 10% of their precious tags (now that won't happen!).
