Wyoming HMAs

Hi guys!

Need some info/advice about Wyoming's HMA's. Some friends and I are hoping to hunt in eastern Wyoming this coming fall. In the past, I've always paid access fees and hunted on ranches. I'm curious to find out if anyone has had any experience hunting any of the HMAs. Is it worth the time and effort?

Any input would be appreciated!

P.S. - The ranch we were hunting on decided they needed a $1,000 access fee....seems pretty steep to shoot a forkie!

Thanks

What is an HMA? We do not have them in Wyoming. If you are talking about public lands, I'd avoid eastern Wyoming. There are some smaller parcels of public lands here, but the quality is not as good as other places, either in Wyoming or other states.

some hma are good but they do get alot of pressure but you can surley get a forky there i even know of some 200" deer taken from them best to find hma's that are first or second year sign ups some are areas that had limited access befor so the bucks are there

my experience with them has beeen for antelope, and i would say they are a disaster for goats, in the areas i have tried anyway. both are on ranches that have never denied anyone that i know of access for free to hunt antelope, and had good numbers of goats, and some descent bucks. now they are overhunted, and its tough to find an antelope on them, much less a good one. they just get chased onto adjacent lands where hunting isn't allowed.

Near as I know, we don't have HMA's in Region J. I've been here forever and have never heard of them. And as I pointed out earlier, the public access places in J get hammered.
