There are so many poses to pick from to have my muley mounted, I decided to take a poll. What do you guys think looks the best?

It depends on exactly which wall you are going to put it on. But generally the best one and the one we usually do is the Semi-sneek right or left turn. Also depends if you want to show one side better than the other.

Pedestal mounts will bring your monster muley to life! Whether you pick a wall or table pedestal..that is the route I'd go!

Droop or semi-sneak with just a little turn of the head. If you start running out of space, a corner mount can be a nice change.

I am a pedestal fan. I have four deer on the wall and they are all pedestal mounts. Two of them have habitat to go with them. They are absolutely beautiful.

this might sound corny but, it depends on the characteristics of the deer. what do you want him to portray. each mount shows different aspects of deer. a lot of it has to do with how you see your deer. is he proud and majestic, sneaky or wise etc. i personally feel each pose shows different aspects of the deer's character. pick the one you like though.
good luck and let us know what you decide,

Looking at all of my mounts my next one will be with the ears back thats about the only one I dont have :)-

Semi-sneak wall pedistal with a nice rock on the side! You can have the taxidermist match the rock to the type of terrain you took the buck in. It costs just a little bit more but you won't regret spending the extra money. I just got mine back a couple weeks ago and I love it!

I have several different mounts with different positions. It really depends on the type of rack you have ie; very wide but not tall, very tall but not wide, tall and wide etc. FWIW, I like the ones I have on the wall in corners. I had the Taxi. mount them turned more than the standard 1/8th or less. He did them more than 45degrees which makes the hair or skin kind of wrinkle a bit which makes them look very real. I also have one that has a rack that is 29" wide with long forks but the rears kind of went back rather your typical strait up. This entire rack looks like its wide open rather than boxy. I had him mount it like the buck was sticking his nose up the backside of a doe, which lays the rack back even more making it look very cool. To each his own, but again I think you should mount it according to the type of rack you have........................rf

Decisions, decisions?!! Thanks for the great input, pictures, etc!! I need to tell the taxidermist to hold for further instruction depending on your recommendations! I'll post a picture of the deer in the Photo Gallery so everyone can see the head in question.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-03-04 AT 10:24PM (MST)[p]I received such great input, I decided to share the buck in question now that the picture was uploaded.
Thanks for the advice!

I unfortunately posted the picture down a few replies. I want to say thanks for the input and show you the muley in question now that the picture is uploaded. I have the taxidermist on hold for now until I decide.

The buck I shot this year is being mounted. I am having a semi sneek turned right to show his little droppers and cheaters. Keep shopping and dont rush it.

Congrats on a nice buck!
I agree with Kingfish on the semi alert slight turn.
Will look good on the wall.
Best,
Jerry

Congrats on a nice buck. I ditto Drake's comment on the ear's back, kind of like they look in the picture.

i think your choice depends on:

1.) how the deer looked when you were hunting it. what image of the buck is burned into your brain forever?

2.) the cape and rack and what angle you enjoy looking at the most.

3.) last, but not least, what wall you will be hanging it on in your house. this is directly related to #2.

i like a semi-sneak form with a slight turn left or right depending on the wall it will be hung on. my buck from this year will be in a semi-sneak position with a slight turn to the left, ears even with the main beams. this way, he and the other buck i had mounted a couple years ago will be hung on the same wall a few feet apart, and face each other slightly.

just my $0.02.

Thanks for all the great input!! Gave the taxidermist the go-ahead for a semi-sneak right turn. I'll post a picture when he's hanging on the wall.
Thanks again!

Here's a pick of the two I have done. The one on the left is straight up looking right, the one on the left is a wall pedastal quartered looking left with one ear cocked half back. It would have been hard to mount them in there natural position when I shot them as both had their head in a bush chompin' away.

Regardless of what you decide on, making the ears back, quartered or alert can really add a awesome touch to a mount. OSOK had some sweet pics of his brute, maybe if you ask nice he'll post 'em again.
