In 2006 I hunted in NM unit 15 in the late Nov Muzzleloader season for the first time. I have rifle hunted the 16's in years past with great success. The late season in 2006 was very tough due to weather and the spring drought had a huge impact on antler growth as many of you know. I really enjoy hunting with a muzzleloader and am wondering about unit 13 during the first muzzleloader season. The outfitter I use suggested it based on the quality of bulls they have taken the last few years out of unit 13 during the archery and muzzleloader seasons. I am just wondering and trying gain information. Any thoughts would greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Unit 13 is a ROUGH unit... All the outfitters I talked to had HELL in that unit last year.. Is your outfitter R.J.? If you are going to do a DIY hunt you might want to call Tommy

I was in that unit during the archery seasons and it was SLOW...

unit 13 does have some really nice bulls, i personaly love 15, but drawing the first muzzleloader hunt is like pullin hens teeth, whereas 13 is quite a bit eaiser. i did a little scoutin down there this summer when i was workin in quemado. the elk arent that thick there but there are some good ones, it is an ok unit, you would just have to do your homework if you where to hunt there

considering the G & F is usually behind the times... If they are cutting tags that means the elk are hurting... The floods really changed the elks habits last year. ALOT of tanks were blown out and finding them was tough...
