IDAHO HELLS CANYON WILDERNESS

anyone hunt the west side of the wilderness. backpack hunts or horses. interested in some remote areas no atvs or horse hunters.

300stw, I have hunted in Hells canyon a bit. I am not sure what you mean by the west side? I have hunted in unit 18. There are some good bucks in the unit and you can get away from the atvs and roads if you want. I would warn you that that will not get you away from other hunters. The roads are located such that access is not too hard. And the river runs on the far west side and has plenty of jet boats on it during huntign season. The hard part is getting a tag. I shot the first buck I saw on my hunt 185 5x5 with 21" g-2. I was headed in by foot for about 4 days, and spotted him that morning less then 1/2 mile from the road.
It is also a very good elk unit. as is 23 to the south. I think that you can buy an over the counter tag for elk and deer in that unit and it has some remote areas as well. I have not hunted it though. good luck.

i thought the map showed unit 22 goes up into the south west side of the unit. was interested in that part.
