LAST EDITED ON Sep-05-17 AT 07:18PM (MST)[p]Well, I was on my way to NM to bow hunt elk in Unit 51. I stopped about 4 hours from home in Springfield MO yesterday after noon, as to be better rested for the remainder of my 16 hr or so journey. I was awaken by the hotel phone ringing. It was the general manager of the Drury Inn asking me if I drove a black Envoy with a trailer? She proceeded to tell me that the 4 wheeler was stolen and my vehicle was broken into, which it was, and all of my hunting and personal property was stolen!

So I'm back home!

Hope everyone has better luck!

Thanks Miguel and Francisco you guys are awesome!

Joe

Holy crap that sucks, Joe. I'm very sorry to hear that. I hope they catch that jerk and give him (her?) a life sentence for killing an elk hunt.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-05-17 AT 07:19PM (MST)[p]No they don't have security cameras can you believe that? And the manger acted like this is a rarity but after talking with a pawnshop owner (who was very helpful in spreading the word to other pawn dealers of my loss)says this happens a lot in that hotel area!

Thanks guys for your support it means a lot

Joe

Joe,

really sorry about this. Save up for a whole year and preparation and excitement for a hunt you have been looking forward to. I do hope they get what is coming to them. Its every where had one of my trail cams stolen this summer I know its not as big of loss as yours but it still sucks. Hope you recover every thing.

Jack

That's a damn shame. Sorry for your loss and loss of a hunt as well. Hope they break their neck on the 4 wheeler.

Thanks guys

Any loss is a loss and it sucks

And yes I hope they break something

Wow , just friggin wow! Im sorry to hear this I hate thieves, with mad passion I hate thieves!I think hotels should have cameras and it should be posted whether or not they do , I assure you more people would choose hotels with cameras and might deter sorry stealing sonsofbitches!...Again , sorry to hear of this and I m sorry to hear this and hope they catch the sorry POS who did this!

A real bummer,if I was closer to where you were headed I would have loaned you all of my hunting gear plus my side by side.

Joe

You can't let the bastards win. Regroup and gear up again. You can do the hunt without the ATV. Buy the equipment and get yourself out to NM.

Life is short don't let a bump in the road cancel your trip.

Joe, I don't know how well it would fit you, but my bow (Bowtech Assassin, 70 lb draw) is not getting used this season, and depending on where you were planning to hunt, I'm within one to two hours of unit 51. It's got five pins out to 55 yards and then chrono-ed so that it can be dialed up to 100. You're welcome to use it, plus whatever calls, etc that I have. If you hunt through the 14th, I have the 15th off, so I could just plan to meet up with you somewhere that day to get my stuff back.

You need to be hunting.

Joe,
That is a bummer. My youngest son just had his truck broken into and lost all of his fly fishing gear and rods. Hope you can figure it out to still spend some days in the field. If you were closer I'd just meet you with my wheeler and bow!

Absolutely makes me sick to read this! Hopefully somehow you can get past this and get to your hunt.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-07-17 AT 05:12AM (MST)[p]I'm with the others. Get your ass out here, let us gear you up and go hunt. Karma will get that POS.

I am so overwhelm by all the support and offers to help. You guys are a great bunch!
Although I'll have to sit this season out , I wish all of you good luck on your hunts!

What a bummer, once you said broken into I would have put 1k bet it would have been here in NM. We only rank as the number 1 state in the entire nation for auto theft. And these POS are now targeting hunting camps. Set up a trail cam at camp just to be safe. These crackheads are EVERYWHERE!
Sorry about your lose hope they catch them and the law over there is much more than a slap on the wrist like it is here.

I would also like to pitch in to help get you on a bull, If you decide to come out in spite of the lowlife POS that stole your stuff.

Freaking thieves. We never leave anything hunting related overnight in the truck anymore. Its a pain but you don't have worry bout it not being there when you wake up. we put heads and capes on ice in the tub or do whatever you have to.

Good idea there!

Man, I am sorry to hear about this, that sucks really bad. I had this happen in 2012 in Santa Fe prior to my archery elk hunt. It was a inside job from the motel as I was parked directly under a security camera with a lot of lighting. Security camera went on the blink about the time of my break in.......never recovered any of my gear. Only silver lining is I still went on my elk hunt and with some borrowed gear (I took my bow into my motel room), I killed a solid 340" 6x6. Now when I stop I carry everything piece of gear into my motel room. I should of known better, but I thought I would be ok in Santa Fe. The vehicle break in stories in NM are many unfortunately.......

264, I'm not sure but I'll mention it to the wife.
Thanks for the info

You know I just want to thank all the you guys for your support and offers to help, and everything in between, it means a lot. I truly hope each and everyone of you know this!

Its not just a NM thing. I seen or heard on it happening basically anywhere. Had some friends go to a Bass PRO in San Antonio a couple years ago shopping. Left there and went a few miles down the road to eat. Came out after eating to a truck broke into and everything missing. Call the cops and while they were telling their story the cop started looking around the back of their truck. The cop found a red dot on the bottom of the tailgate. Tweakers were trolling the BP parking lot marking vehicles in there shopping. They knew then which vehicles they found around town had been shopping at BP and my have merchandise in them. A few years ago on the way north deer hunting we stopped in Denver for the night at a nice hotel. We came out the next morning to cop cars all around our truck. Seems the jacked up Dodge Mega Cab with all the outdoor hunting and fishing decals and camo that was parked next to our plain F350 that didn't have anything in it by the way got cleaned out. 4 guys lost guns packs optics everything. Don't take anywhere for granted. Thieves are everywhere.

I'm so sorry Joe. Was looking forward to meeting with you :(

But we are always here as mm friends are. If there is anything I can do let me know

cbat, thanks for that info. I'll never take it for granted again!
I just turned 56 on Monday the 4th, I guess I have to change my way of thinking. It's a shame.

I bet if you can see your way into going back to your hunt there is plenty of us on here willing to help you out. I have packs or rain gear or camping stuff if you need to borrow anything. I would loan you a bow if I had one set up right now. Let us know what you need.

Sorry to hear that bad news, Hope you can pull a tag again next year.
Hope they catch those POS.

Sorry to hear of your losses and your hunt that didn't happen. Find another town to stop next time around, heavy cable or chain your ATV if your going to stop overnight. I would make it hard for them to roll ATV off trailer, lock the drag chain to the vehicle....hope things work out better next trip.

I always park so I can see from my room with shades partially open and travel with the Texas rule.

Thanks for asking

Joe, I don't know what happened. I posted twice on this post and they are not here. I am not real good with my phone. I have been out of town almost all of sept. Archery elk in CO and NM. Got a cow in CO 2 nights ago and lots of exercise. LOL.

I am really sorry about something like that. I sure wish we could have gotten you enough gear and stuff to at least spend some time in the field. Maybe the tag Gods will smile on you next year.

Thanks a lot NMPaul. I had trouble posting from my phone also
I'm glad all is good and congrats on your hunts.

bahahahahahah

this is hilarious. this crap happens to me on the reg. I think its hilarious. Cant get mad, that only makes you loose sleep. I mean come on look at the pic. They had the audacity to take the wheeler off the trailer. I mean how funny is that. I thought I had some pretty crafty thieves but that's funny.

I had a rig rigged up over a well head once. The thieves came and turned on my rig. They used my rig tools and the blocks to unbolt the well head and lift it off the well and steal it. then they lowered my blocks into a truck or trailer and used a welder to cut the lines. blocks like that weigh about 5,000 lbs. next they stole my rig batteries and 6 of the tires off my rig. and for some reason they stole the steering wheel out of the cab.

new day we had an oil well burping oil on the ground and no way to stop it. When I saw the mess I just laughed. the lengths some thieves go through. dude, how many people get to say your 4 wheeler AND all your crap got stolen? lol the wheeler was probably the get away vehicle.

Lol Stinky! that's what I thought too that the 4x4 was the getaway vehicle
