I haven't ever heard of it. Just wondering if there are many out there. You gotta think there are. Anybody got a pic of one that they would like to share?

I know there was a set of sheds picked up in NV that grossed over 400 as a 5x5, a few years back. Kings did a recreation on it a couple years back.

We had a mount in a local sporting goods store of a few years back. It scored 375 I believe. I think it was shot in the late 70's or early 80's up the Gallatin Canyon in Mt. It was a monster. I think they said it might of been one of the first 5 points in the record books.

Here's a giant shed 5 point from Oregon.I think it scored about 165 .Maybe not B$C material but still a great horn!

I just did a search of the B&C record book data base for 5x5 typical American Elk:

Rank #1. 364 7/8 shot in 1967 by Robert Zimmerman in Gallatin County, Montana. All-time rank 712.

This is probably the bull that Bozeman referred to above.

It does not make the all-time book, but does make the awards book.

There may be other 5x5 bulls out there that were never entered, but this is the only 5x5 in the book, as of this date.

Happy Hunting!

I have a feeling a 5x5 or 5x6 bull elk making B&C is similar to a shiras moose without forking brows making B&C. There may be a handful that make it but it is nearly impossible! There are some outrageous 5x and non-forked brow moose bulls that don't make it and that is where the B&C scoring system is somewhat unfair! Sometimes it almost seems like the Safari Club measurement system is more fair because it doesn't account for deductions and what you see is what you score!

What a picture whaletail. Fitting name from the guys posting the picture.

I would be surprised to see a 5x5 making B&C. I would love to see it though. I suppose it would be similar to a 4x4 whitetail making the book, I believe there are less than a dozen.

A guy killed a 370+ with a few inches broke off in 2005 @ Huali World. I measured it myself. It was a freeby too! They were offering a "managment" (5 pt) or a deformed bull on top of the trophy bulls @ no additional cost that year only.

Who knew that Bob Dylan hunted elk in MT...

This is my post

I've just pissed in my pants.......and nobody can do anything about it.

Sorry guys, according to the newest B&C book there are no entries with 5 pts on either side.

Does anyone know, on a 5 point, is the 4th circumference measurement still allowed/taken? Doesn't seem logical to me to have it taken?

The huge typical 5x5 elk sheds featured in the Hunting Illustrated issue a couple years back have an H4 measurement in the statistics part of the story.

What a bull! What would it take for a 5 to be B&C? It would truly be a magnificent bull!

Well, to make 375 net with a 5 pt, let looks at what you are missing vs. a 6x6. Obviously you are missing the G5, so subtract say 20-24" total, plus you are missing the H4, so subtract about 10-12" for that. We are now down by about 30-36", so you would need everything else on the Bull to be on par with a 405-411 net 6x6. Yes, that would indeed be a monster Bull.

Are you sure? It doesn't say anything about it on the score charts, like it does for a 3x3 Mule Deer.

From the B&C website:

Do elk and deer always get four circumference measurements? What about eight-pointers? What about twelve-pointers?

Yes, elk and deer trophies ALWAYS get four circumferences. In the case of an eight-point whitetail, the G-4 is missing. Instead of looking for the smallest location between the G-3 and the G-4, the measurement is taken at the halfway point between the G-3 and the tip of the main beam. Similarly, on a mule deer with no G-3, the H-3 circumference measurement would be taken at a point halfway between where the G-2 measurement begins and the end of the G-2. For deer and elk, no matter how many normal points it has, four circumferences per side will always be the exact number of circumference measurements.

Same bull as the wheeler picture when I called this bull in my buddy had no idea on how many points it had but he said on video it was not a 370 plus but it had a whale of a tail before we found his bull.It will be a great mount when he gets it back.57 inch main beams would be tough for anyone to pass with a bow.

Wow, that G3 is more than impressive. Wonder what the bull netted?

The first bull on that page is outstanding as well...BROW TINES! Whoa!

Got that pic NVguide? Sorry to bring up this old topic but I'd love to see the picture.

Sorry I took so long to get the pic I forgot. Right here with a 42 inch inside spread he gorss scores 387 and nets about 376.

NVguide,

Nice 5x5! But what about a photo of that pedestal mount behind you?

Come on bud...share!

Grizzly

NV4Life you are correct that is the same 5 point. He was pretty busted up when they killed him this year. And that pedestal is a bull I harvested in Nevada in 2001.
