What is wrong with hunting with a rifle during the rut? As long as they limit the # of tags or hunters so what. Anyone know if any more specific info on UTAH. I did put in for Utah moose and elk. Do they have landowner tags?

Where and how in MT? I went there last year and I'd go back again. Especially to unt during the rut.

The first seperate elk in Colorado usually has bulls still hot.
The cows that didn't get breed in September will cycle again during this season.(depending if the rut is late or early)Two years ago I got into elk with my dad and there was two bulls still bugling hot and heavy.
I wouldn't want to be in the woods with other gun toters chasing bugles,but that's just me I want to live longer.
One more thing in most units the first season you should draw no problem.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-10-07 AT 08:00PM (MST)[p]Honestly, I used a service to put in for me this year. Probably do it myself next year. I used Carters/HuntinFool. You are right I did not even notice. Probably a 1% chance of getting drawn.
Does Utah have landowner tags? That way I could for sure go.
Thanks for your patience, I'm still learning.
Edited to add: It looks like I was put in for unit 351 for elk. There is a big mark on the last digit and all I got is a photocopy so it is hard to read. Moose is unit 901.

Idaho has wilderness hunts starting Sept. 15. They still have some tags left for the middle fork of the Salmon.

The Bob Marshall and I believe its the Aboraska wilderness areas offer rut rifle hunts for elk, deadline is next Thursday to put in for Montanas general draw. There are still outfitters with openings for this up and coming season. If you dont have any points I believe the odds are around 50% for the Combo, Deer, elk. thats all I know.

Yes. IT is about a 55% draw. I wonder what the kill ratio is on the Montana wilderness hunts. I'd guess 20% but that is a guess from someone in Arkansas. I do know that the outfitter we used, which was horrible, said that they did not have a good early season in the Absaroka wilderness area.

utah does have L.O. tags but they probly aren't much cheeper than most auction tags, not sure how to get the list, never tried, call jason or garth, i'm sure they know, nevada also has L.O. tags for great units, i seen an 81 tag go for $11,000, that is probly the starting point for most of the better units, but not sure, good luck, keep at you will figure it out!

Valle Vidal, NM, 1st rifle. Odds are a little tough though...something like 2 out of 505 two years ago. And then last year I couldn't draw a general tag in MT. Go figures.

The Valles Caldera in NM has 16 bull tags by draw Spet.30-Oct.4th. Its $25.00 a chance and a person can buy up to 20 chances. There are 17 other public land rifle bull hunts here in NM thats fall in the week of Oct7-11 , actually 15 and 2 that are the weekend before.
