Here is a picture of my own European mount on this year elk. Please tell me what you think and if you think the cedar will make a good backgroud. I will have to go cut a bigger piece of cedar.
Thanks
Tory

It's really depends on if you like it, but if it were mine, I would get a piece of wood that flows better with the piece you are trying to display. The first look is always at the antlers, but when I see this, I look at the wood.

I like the idea but agree with buncoboy. I think maybe a larger piece of wood so the skull is not hanging over might be better.
Keep us posted.

Thanks guys, I know that I would have to cut a bigger piece of cedar. I only have cedar cut for euro deer mounts. I guess I will have to find a big enough dead cedar tree and than see how it looks.

Wyo,

I personally like Euros without any backing. However, your cedar idea is a new one on me. I do like that wood, but a backing for an elk? Make a cool clock out of that wood!;-)

Maybe cut a piece of cedar on a 60 degree angle to make it bigger and longer for the skull?
