I put this post in the archery section and i did not get a lot of replies and so i'am hoping that i will get some here. I'am an archery hunter and when iam not trying a stalk am sitting on a waterhole. the problem is that ill sit on it all day and i will only see a 2 point or a 2x3 and no good bucks, and this area is known for good bucks, i have seen many bucks anyone would take, and so iam wondering if the big ones only come out at night or what it doesnt make sense to sit there if no big boys are coming in. So any past experences would be good to know about.

I hunt public land every year, and my experience with big mulies is that the majority of them water after dark. They really are creatures of habit, and once they get accustomed to something, I think they stick with it. In all my experiences with big mulies over the years, I have only ever caught a big buck once or twice going for water during daylight hours. And this has been just within the last 4 or 5 years, where we have not had a lot of water, and the summers have been extremely hot and dry, requiring a little more water. But then again, when its extremely hot and dry the big bucks aren't going to move around a whole lot, so the majority of their activity is going to be early, early morning and right before dark. But overall, I think the majority of the smarter, more mature bucks water after dark, or before sunrise.

I have set up on water with good success. I don't sit on the water directly I try to figure their route and move back in the cover and set up a stand in on their way to water. sometimes I have to keep moving back in until I figure out about when they will hit my stand on the way to water. This has worked for me.
good luck!!!!

From my experience the bigger bucks come in after or before shooting light. As mentioned try to set up in path between water and their bedding.

I have set trail cameras on water in the past and learned some VERY interesting things. Sometimes those big ones come in at noon when we're all at camp! :)
