Anyone really familiar with the (road) area? Hunted down there on the archery hunt with my Uncle. Saw some dandy bucks. I put in for the rifle portion this year. I heard the deer are not in the same areas come the rifle hunt. Anyone know where the good ones run off to? And does anyone know where they winter? Thanks in advance.

I drew a muzzleloader tag for this unit a few years back. We saw a lot of deer and I shot a nice buck.

My brother drew a rifle tag the following year. Even though the rifle hunt is only a few weeks later, there were hardly any bucks in the areas where we had seen them on the muzzleloader hunt the previous year.

After four days of frustration in the high country we moved down into the pinyon-juniper country and found the bucks. He ended up shooting a decent buck.

CDub, what do you mean by a nice buck or a decent buck .... are the book cliffs a trophy area or just an average area??????

My muzzleloader buck was 175 class, my brother's rifle buck was 150 class. In my opinion the Book Cliffs has gone downhill since they reopened it to hunting 5 or 6 years ago. I think they give out way too many tags. There are tons of deer and lots of average bucks out there, but I think you would have to hunt really long and hard to kill a bruiser.
