Come On Arizona Hunters

One of the main reasons AZ drew early this year is to give hunters more time to get ready for their hunts... This sudden insurgence of hunters coming on asking for help in their units already is crazy to me. Get out there and see your unit! Learn the roads, the pockets, the tanks, ect. I know some of the units are large, BUT we have the time this year! If after that, you still need help, then ask! I am not above asking anyone for help, but, I want the other hunter to know that I am serious and I am putting an effort into this, not just asking for handouts. I see where other hunters are posting road numbers and tanks, ridges, this is nothing these guys can't find out for themselves, WHEN they start scouting. If they don't find the sign or the animals after they find these areas then they need the help. All I'm asking for is put an honest effort into this, these tags are great, it's an exciting time for all of us that were drawn, take advantage of it!
ooooo I bet I get a bunch of nasty responses... :-(

You'll get a response out of me, but not a nasty one. LOL.

Yes, these will be "tags of a lifetime" for many. However, the increasingly popular "forum plea" for info isn't the best route IMO. Not only are folks missing out on a huge chunk of that "once in a lifetime experience", they are also indirectly killing/exposing spots that may have taken others years of hard work to find. I don't look at this as being "a good thing."

Sure, when/if you draw that tag, you should be contacting folks to find general areas that hold concentrations of elk. However, this should be done through phone calls, emails, and such. Not on a public forum, where hundreds of hunters are lurking to suck up every little bit of info. Follow those calls up w/ some foot work, and you'll be good to go.

So do everyone a favor, and keep the begging for unit info off the forums. Keep it to emails, phone calls, and pm's. Might actually get to enjoy that spot to yourself once the season rolls around.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Whaaaaaaaaaaaa! Whaaaaaaaaaaaa!

There are 11 threads on AZ unit help on the first page of this forum. It is only going to get worse.

It's Bush's fault!!!

LAST EDITED ON Apr-04-07 AT 01:57PM (MST)[p]Take the east side of the 411 road, go left on the second fence post and there is a secret road that dead-ends to a tank! There was a 400 bull there last year that nobody got.
Also, you can have someone drop you on top of the Lockett Springs road and have them pick you up on the bottom, on the dirt road.
Also, there are 3 or 4 tree stands that are between and 2 springs on the Green Road above and south of Lockett Springs. Water will be the key this year. We?ve flew the area before and seen good bulls feeding at 2:30pm in the afternoon!

LAST EDITED ON Apr-04-07 AT 12:24PM (MST)[p]That was MY secret spot you just gave out! Now EVERYONE is going to hunt there, even if it takes them 15 yrs to get a tag, they will still remember it! Thanks a lot now I have to post and ask somebody for help!(LOL) I love seeing people have a good hunt. I outfit but I understand not all people want to go guided, if I can help then I will!

NOW,NOW,NOW, Gentlemen term used loosely, Where is the sportsman in us to talk like that. Some people like to elk hunt as much as you do. That do not live in the same state let alone 30 min from the mountain. They are just hoping for some insite to persue there and your dream, of a big bull on the wall. COWBOY-UP and help a brother out. I have helped some folks here and they were very grateful, and now are my friends. Why be a jerk if you do not have to be. We are all one big union weather we like it or not. Most folks do not want to know the GPS cordinates of the last bull you saw, just a round about area to start, Maby for there dad who is aging, or there son's first hunt. Seems petty for some of the crap spoken or typed in here sometimes. There is not one of us on here that did not need help one time or another. Think before you type, help a brother, father, or a son out.

Up in unit 9, the biggest bull I ever saw from the air, was on the reservation line just below and to the east of Willows Trick Tank. You past the 2 black railroad tanks and follow the 2 tracker around and there is a canyon running from the state-side to the rez side. That's where they go bed. It's crazy in there.
Another good spot, is on the 7 and 9 border. Take the Cedar Ranch Road and above it, there is a gas line. Take that gas line road until you get on top. Go through 2 fences and take a right on a 2 tracker into this canyon. There is a tank that nobody knows at the end of it.

I bet if the shoe was on a another foot you would have a different opinion. I have given up info. before but just because you give out the info. dosen't guarantee they will take home a critter. You still gotta get out and hunt. Personally, I take pride in knowing I helped someone have a successful hunt. Elk are a renewable resource, and there will still be some around the next year to hunt.

What you get now is more and more guys are giving out dumby information, If you want to help some-one just PM them, ALOT OF BAD INFORMATION is floating around so please don't just take what you hear on a chat board get out and scout read your maps, phone calls, the Bio, GW,and such.

Buy your own chute plane like me and half the guides in AZ and UT did, ya cheap bastards!

You expect me to risk life and limb getting GPS locations of all these BIG STINKIES then come on here and spill the beans?

SOUR GRAPES, SOUR GRAPES, SOUR GRAPES! If a person wants to tell everybody about their honey hole isn't that their own bussiness? I guess if you guys told that person about it that would be differant, but then again, that would make you the same. I can't believe ,moneyman, you need a chute plane. Allyou have to do to make your hunt better is buy some maps! Hell anyone in New York should just quit their job move out west(wherever) and start scouting for their hunt. Never mind they might need a job to pay for gas, they should do it!

I came to MonsterMuley.com back in November after I had lost my backpack on a hunt. One of the hunters was nice enough to post a message on this site and people responded and I got my backpack back, which I thank everybody for. I thought that type of comraderie was what this site was about and just simply asking for a little information about a unit that I'm not familiar with wouldn't be a big deal. I recently was one of the people that put a post on this site asking for information and I really appreciate the help from those who responded and I intend to contact them in a PM. I thought this site was built by hunters to help other hunters and to relay information back and forth among members. If you don't want to see certain posts, don't look. Also, I will be scouting all summer, but where I see elk in the summer I may not see them in fall, so any information from somebody that has hunted that area recently is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
DSF

I agree...I came on here and posted last year before my dads book cliffs hunt. I could not believe the response I got from hunters all over state. I even had several guys that met me out there and gave me maps of canyons and did everything they could to help us get a good buck. They didn't even have a tag and still did all this to help us out. If they ever need help in my neck of the woods they can guarantee that I will return the favor no questions asked and with honest advice. Thanks again for those of you that helped us out. Thats why I joined MM, because of that mentality. If you aren't on here to help people or share stories and advice, then what's the point?

I also believe that we can use this site to help each other. I do not mind sharing information and will help others if I can. Whats wrong with asking for more areas to scout and work. Yes hunters should do their homework and scout and with the early draw they should have more opportunity. But I do not believe they should be put down because they want other areas to scout.
I have received very good information and have even met a hunter that helped me on a hunt that we had together. I also hope that I can help others be successful in their hunts. So if I ask for help in a hunt don't let it bother you.

I am saying helping the fellow hunter is not the issue, I think these forums are great for that. I just don't like the idea of hunters coming on here asking for help before they even look at a map of their area let alone drive through it. When help is given, PM's are usally the best way to go, then there are not 20 hunters sitting at the same spot just cause they read somthing on the net. My main point is scout the area by using a map, topos, ariel photos, going out driving around, once you do some homework, THEN ask for help if you need it, and if I can, I will gladly help you out with a call or a PM.

I agree with the two post above mine. I think we should all be willing to give good advice if we have knowledge of an area or particular hunt. HOWEVER, I agree that we should do it privately via PM or over the phone.

Last year, when my son drew a 12AE late Kaibab tag, I got the basics down with maps and a call to the game warden and then asked for some help on here and bowsite, and there were several people who privately gave me good information that contributed to my son killing a very good buck. I think I owe it to these people to not only help them if they ever need it, but to also continue their spirit of cooperation and sportsmanship and offer the same help to anyone fortunate enough to draw that tag this year. I'll be glad to give out information, but it'll be done privately for anything other than very general information.

I agree that it should be done through a pm and that is what I do unless it is very general information. The guys that are not willing to scout and study maps need not see information on a regular post. I appreciate the help that I have received on my son's hunt in 05 and the deer hunt that we awre on last year. Through this correspondence I was able to meet just a great guy and hunter, Blank (here on MM).

Aren't we all lucky to hunt, and isn't it great to know that weather you are stuck in the middle of no where with a flat tire that one of your brothers will stop and give you some help. If it is help with a ride or a phone call or general hunting info. When I solicit help I truly don't expect someone to give away great grandpas honey hole, that he shoot a whopper off the same rock every year. Just a good place to start and see some game that will be a decent hunt. However, it is crazy to go take a secret to the grave on a once in a lifetime hunt that you will never hunt again. If someone draws a box elder goat tag give me a call I would be glad to pin point some spots to kill a good goat. I will never have the opportunity to do that again for myself and I wish everyone luck that they may draw the tag of their dreams and kill a wall hanger.

Lucky,
I agree with you completely on the PM issue. Your first post didn't mention anything about the privacy end of it. I thought that you were trying to encourage everyone not to give info out to people that may need it. I would never post my spots on a public forum but I would give some great advice through a PM though.
