I was looking at putting in for the second rifle season (10/20-10/24) for these two units as choice 1 and choice 2. What would you all recommend? I know 16a would be better; of course the odds are less as well with me being a non-resident. This will be my first elk hunt (if drawn), so I was leaning more towards 52 over 16 since I hear the numbers are great in 52 and the odds are a bit better. Oh yeah, I plan on leaving the tape at home and just trying to get some bone on the ground if you know what I mean. One question I had was motel access in 52. How far would I be looking at driving each day? So right now I really don't know which will be 1st and 2nd choice. I'm open to pretty much any unit if any other suggestions - as long as with rifle. Thanks in advance.

there is motel in colo..San Antonio and might take u 1 hour to hunting ground from motel...

if u want a cabin.. i have friend who own a cabin in unit 52..it can be rent...it's right there to hunt around..u ll look at 250 to push 300 class bulls...lots of raghorns...

That's what I was afraid of. I am was pretty much aware of the completely different class units/bulls. Too bad there is no easy answer!

You get 3 choices in your app, use them all, motel drives are 1 hour min, and only if you hunt part of unit close to motel, fron san antonitio down 285 to 64 then west to hopewell lake is closer to 2 hours. I would guess 52 odds are a lot better then 16 but I have not checked rifle info
