New Mexico Melk

Melk (Moose/Elk). I found this guy at about a mile and a half the first day, we spotted him I thought he had some hay or mud stuck in his whale tail. The next day we got a closer look. I decided to go after him, it took two days, but it was worth it.

2005, it was a short 5 day hunt and it rained non-stop for the first three days, a bit discouraging, the elk were not very active or vocal, if I had the same tag I would choose the muzzleloader hunt. In fact I put in for the valle vidal muzzle hunt this year.

He was taken in central New Mexico we had to play a chess match to get access around private land. We had to travel a ways out of the way and come back in to reach him. Not a lot of big bulls but we saw some elk scattered in micro heards. There were a lot of rag horns that thought they were the heard bull with 7-10 cows.
