Does anyone have experience with Cabelas outfitter wool jacket or parka, like the one in the link?

I tried a jacket on a while back and my normal size drowned me. Are these so pose to be washed 1st so that they shrink down?

Trying to find a knowlagble person in there department is...well, lacking. They may have a big store and some good stuff in there but there staff don't know chit.

Anyway, if anyone has used there wool series please post up and tell me what you think. Thanks

As a matter of fact I bought both the pants and parka a couple of years ago. Loved them, very warm. BUT, the fact they claim you can machine wash them?? I washed them after their first trip out, big mistake because a kid couldn't fit into them now. The coat didn't shrink as bad but it did shrink. If you do buy, buy the XXXXXXXXXL so after a few wahings they will fit just fine. Also, they were a little heavy for a lot of hiking but other than that they were very warm and dry. Just damn expensive for one hunting season before they shrunk.

Okay, but if I dry clean them will they shrink, or will they stay the original size?

Same size and color, been doing mine for over 10 years now and still look new and fit the same.
But mine is the ones made by Columbia so don't know what or who makes the ones for Cabela's.

I had the ones made by columbia also and they looked and felt the same as Cabelas but I don't know how you guys wear them they are too bulky and if the get wet too heavy, I gave mine to an outfiterr in canada .

I have both the parka with hood and the bibs. They're really warm but heavy. Good for horseback or glassing but terrible for hiking. Bought em to fit so I never wash em.

I got some of the wooltimate, wool fleece mix stuff and I like it a lot. It is lighter than the wool, and doesn't shrink after repeated machine washings. It is warm, the pants are almost too warm for me unless it is sub-zero outside. It doesn't block wind real well, and as it is a lighter less sturdy material than the 100% wool I doubt it will hold up as well over time, but I sure like mine. I have some Columbia brand wool, and some Codet wool pants, but I like being able to machine wash my stuff so I tried this wooltimate stuff. Check it out.

I bought the pants and coat three years ago and have only worn them once. They were the best at 3:00am when I left camp in the cold. However by 9:00am when the sun came up they miserable hot, and believe me, these things just dont stuff in a pack very well. They are also heavy when they are dry, I cant imagine what they would be like if they got wet. I feel like they definatly have a place, I am just not sure what to do with them when it warms up. I will continue to take mine, just not sure if I will wear them again unless I am travling somewhere I can ditch them if it warms up and have a way to get them later.
