It is coming out the shooter had mental problems and the kids in the school guessed it was him before they were told who the shooter was.
He was banned from the school for making threats against students last year, but it looks like nothing further was done. Unknown if the school reported the threats to law enforcement.

Did he seek mental health earlier ? Yes he did according to the news and was probably given some drug like that was given to all the other shooters,the news reported that 70 % of people are on some kind of anti depressant or opioid. The drug companies are laughing all the way to the bank.

Okay, who is the 800lb. gorilla in the room for all things gun related in congress? Who?

Can you imagine if the NRA came out and said they were worried about all these mass shooting and that they involved people using anit depressant drugs? Throw some politic cover to any politician who wanted to address it without worrying about the NRA financed machine running ads against them? Nobody in their right mind on the right dares cross them.

So no it isn't the NRA's responsibility at all, unless they don't want the majority of Americans to demand a politically driven action that even the 5 million NRA members can't fight against. One would hope that THE gun rights organization would be worried about how these shooting play in the public and that there is something, not involving guns, that can be argued is causing many of these to happen, ie the use of anti depressant guns. Unless the NRA has no interest in solutions to mass shooting and believes the best course is to wait for public outrage to force something on all gun owners out of emotion.

Maybe incorrectly I am just assuming the NRA and it's members would like a solution to the issue that doesn't involve blaming guns.

The big problem with mental health issues is that it is not mandatory for mental health officials to report a patient that may be a danger to others or himself.

A large percentage of mental health careworkers are against mandatory reporting and will not report a patient that MAY have suicidal or homicide tendencies.

It needs to be taken out of their hands with mandatory reporting to a central data base and if they fail to do so, they will be held accountable. Democrats will fight this as they have done before. They consider it a invasion of privacy that can not be tolerated.

Dude you need to read your links. Obama, being anti gun as he was, did a overreach with that ban and it was opposed by both conservatives and liberals.

We need a ban that will target the mentally ill that are diagnosed as being a danger to themselves or others by their actions or statements. That includes people that have to go on meds for severe depression.

As for the GOP congress passing new laws Nemont, do they have enough of a majority to do that with Democrats opposing it???? If they did, it seems they would have already passed a new immigration law that Trump wanted.

Seems as if there is a large and well funded organization that doesn't give any leeway for Republicans to purpose such a bill and open up a debate. No purchasing of firearms and not allowed to possess any firearms while under treatment. they can have the right to contest the ban before a board of mental health experts to determine that their treatment was successful in making them no longer a danger to themselves or others.

It was a vet with post traumatic stress that shot Chris Kyle and his friend when they were trying to help him and both died for their efforts to help a fellow vet.

I had guns in the rack in my pickup parked on school property everyday. most kids did. nobody thought a thing of it.

But we bought our guns at the feed store, maybe Bud's Gun Shop, and they were model 70's, Ruger No 1 's and model 700's. they weren't Rambo chit bought at " Sunrise Tactical Supply " because we were shooting coyotes and rock chucks. not people.

" Tactical Supply " , says it all doesn't it ? is rock chuck shooting " tactical maneuver " ? no, the feed store had everything we needed . but if you want to be a dipchit Rambo you go to a " tactical Supply " store don't you ? wow, so cool.

That man card has to be a much needed ego boost, I hope it's worth it little Johnson.

I had what's called a zero hour class my senior year that made me go to school early in the morning. I had Baseball practice at 3:30 when school was dismissed. I got out of my 6th period class and had about 45 minutes of free time before I had to get to practice. Another friend had the same schedule. We went shooting for that 45 minutes just about every day. Guns were in the truck rifle racks for everyone to see all day.

You're right 440, an assault rifle would have scared people back then but not to the point of freaking out, they would have told us to get it out of here and maybe banned us from ever bringing a gun to school. Now a student gets arrested if a gun is in their car.

I seriously doubt that the gun lobby that refuses to endorse background checks at gunshows would go for something like this. It's probably a good idea but the "first step on a slippery slope" or "give an inch" thinking would never allow it.

If everyone on this forum that should be on antidepressants were really ON antidepressants we wouldnt be having this discussion because 80% of the regulars couldn't own a gun.

Now no guns are allowed. because if they were AR-15 can be bought in vending machines and every kid would have his Honda Accord loaded with them. I get why guns are now banned from school property.


I don't have kids, I don't even like kids much. but I think they have a right to life and they should be able to go to school without wondering if their class room will look like My Lai at the end of the day.

we all know it's coming sadly. or do we just continue to ignore the real problems and fight about guns? but that wouldn't align with the liberal agenda now.

it's a no brainer that we need to secure our schools. why is anybody able to walk in to a school? why are these people with either criminal histories or mental issues buying guns? obviously the current background system isn't working. by focusing on guns you are ignoring the other bigger problems. most of these people have signs but everybody ignores them until this happens. politicians don't give a crap about the people as long as they are perceived to care. they would ban whatever guns they want and walk away patting themselves on the back, but it won't fix the problem. I have kids and worry just like everyone else. if I believe it was as simple as banning AR's or mags then I would support it, but it's not. our country has turned in to a bunch of hypocrites. we have become soft hearted bleeding hearts when it comes to crime and worry more about offending everyone then enforcing our laws and holding criminals accountable.
 
So we turn every school into a fortress to protect kids. okay, who's going to pay for that ? and when. what a phuking way to live, I hope you're proud.

So in the mean time we keep on punching out Rambo chit and selling it like skittles to batchit kids who can buy an arsenal but not a beer . well, who can argue with that .

Then one day he beat his out of town friend to death with a claw hammer and drug him around the desert on the end of a lasso for a while. You just never know.

Who's gonna be the person at school who gets to decide "hey that kid's dangerous" and what are you gonna do when its YOUR kid.

PS... I don't have an answer. But it isn't gonna be a simple fix.

I'm not here to argue I lose brain cells when I argue with a few on here that should be on the anti-depressants as NVBighorn points out, just a quick observation from a guy completing year 37 teaching.

I live and teach in a rural community where kids hunt often. Kids that own guns and kids that hunt are not often the same thing. We have the kids that have the bolt action hunting rifles and the kids that have the large number of military style guns they're not the same kids. The kids that have the military style weapons seldom hunt they love the power of the weapon and constantly want to post pictures or show pictures on their phones of their guns. The hunting kids are often pictured with animals they have taken, the old grab and grin seldom with the guns it is a different mindset in my opinion. Some of you guys with the black guns probably are different but I think kids with out fully developed brains in some cases see their selves as a Rambo of sorts. Good responsibly parenting with teaching the responsibility of gun ownership can obviously remedy this, that doesn't always happen.

I believe Cornhusker is very right on the above assessment. Many parents have failed their kids and the result sometimes is a monster being made. I myself based on my experience as a LEO feel that some adults should never had any children as they were not capable of being good parents and giving their kids what they needed to grow into responsible caring adults.

And a lot of those parents let the kids run the household. Kids were never disciplined and parents wanted to be their best friends.
 
Maybe that's true. so the best solution is to arm them with an AR-15 and a pack full of 30 rounders ?

They have video of this kid shooting in his back yard with a MAGA hat on. FAUX won't show it. but if he had a towel on his head they'd be screaming their azz off.

White people killing with Rambo guns is becoming an acceptable fact of life. sad but true.

Can you buy a gun at a gun show without a background check? What state? Hell I can't even loan a gun to my niece in Colorado without a background check!
