nothing but people asking "where to hunt"

HASN'T ANYONE "FOUND" A PLACE TO HUNT?

seems to be alot of guys giving advise, but yet they never seem to kill anything?

what gives? is there a secrete code to see all the big bulls and bucks or is this the "westside of the cascades" forum where people just don't know how to hunt?

( sorry, i'm board??)

First of all in true MM fashion I must correct your spelling, it is pathetic. 2nd, most of the guys on here from Oregon that are hard core don't hunt in Oregon anymore. I can tell you anything you want to know about mule deer hunting everywhere else, but Oregon, in your words, pathetic.

You are right though, not many success photos for Oregon. There is a reason for that. Most of the Oregon guys don't want to post there forky's on MM.

Rich

i'm not showing you my monster buddy......

but this forum is gay- seems like the guys who used to post on here are the ones who killed all the big chit. now you have a couple idiot giving info that obviously don't kill anything, and obviously think that no-one else can either.

You can't polish a turd. look at the record book for the last 10 years and see what's from Oregon, nuff said.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-14-12 AT 09:12AM (MST)[p]As far as deer hunting not much to report it flat sucks. Elk hunting is ok but I keep the trap shut so the area I hunt doesn't get over run with people. This all eastside stuff I am referring to. Bear hunting advice I will tell you whatever you want to know.

Hunted for 9 days and this was the first buck I saw and it was on the second to the last day of the season. Shot him at 636 yards and my friends wife shot a smaller 4 point that was with him at 650 yards. Tough hunt. These just a few pictures from the past few years. None of these bulls were easy to get to or get out.

The elk hunting is ok, for now anyway. but from a thophy aspect it's not what it used to be either. there are plenty in my area, but the age class isn't near what it used to be.

Our deer hunting doesn't even rank, our elk hunting is on par with half the states.

Proper managment would dictate all deer hunting in eastern Oregon be stopped until numbers can recover. if our job as hunters is to remove the excess we have no work to do. ODFW won't ever let it happen because of their budget and that's the only reason.

Haha! It's kinda true, not alot of action. You could assume that no one in Oregon has ever killed anything nice. You could also assume that we are a bunch of illiterate buffoons based on the posts by watershed and this fine example of how to misspell a word in every sentence and how to use punctuation incorrectly. Both of those assumptions would be incorrect of course, but when you don't look at the big picture, you will come to the wrong conclusion.
Nobody's posting up their trophy kills right now because they aren't killing any big game right now. (at least they had better not be) Everybody is asking for advice on where to hunt right now because they are getting ready to apply.
If you want to see some Oregon trophies, here's the "secrete": don't whine about it, start a new thread! Have people post pics of deer and elk; grandpa's, yours, sheds, pics of live animals, etc. I think everybody likes to show what they've got but we've posted in the past and it's not very becoming to post up your own trophy more than once, and after the third or fourth time people would be accusing you of tooting your own horn. So if you're "board" let's see your pics hangingmeat. Start a new thread and I'm sure some of us will post our pics.

( lets see if i can figure out how to post pics)

my season started off with a unsuccessful but fun spring bear..

71241000000682_2.jpg

after passing up a 22 inch 4 pt opening day, i was starting to think i missed my chance when this guy came along...

30541001571.jpg

then came antelope season, miss after miss after miss, it finally ended and so did my
"I DONT MISS" ego

5587111999.jpg

on the last thursday of the season i went out with my brother. i never wear my camo in the truck, so shortly after getting there i realized i had forgot mine at home. i was stuck with a button up shirt and jeans.

with only a few big bull encounters and passing up several other small bulls during the season my brother decided to take this one..
he must have been a tough guy, he had about 6 cows and it took three solid arrows to finish him off.
62312345.jpg

on the second to last day of the season i took this monster.

390354321.jpg

during rifle deer season i got the privilege of taking my good friend Gary out,
Gary suffered and major stoke 11 months earlier, but with hard work and determination he was able to rehab enough to go on this hunt
177123321.jpg

while out with my buddy john we ran across this cat, and 2 others

203712211122.jpg

i put up a trail cam on the fresh antelope kill and these two came right back

a few days after talking john into passing up a nice but smaller 3pt we found this guy.

Dave,
Now that is a great post! A little something for everybody. Thanks for the pics and congratulations on a great year! Well done!

go back to Ifish....Oregon is jacked up, the least we could do is help each other on all these limited draw tags, your issue is that you have got nothing to trade. You gotta give something in return, nothing is ever free.

My favorite hunts are because they were with friends and family not just because "I got one".

Dave, great photos!! Thanks for removing the cat. And that is a stud antelope crawling under the fence. I wished you would have connected.

Great post. I typically look at ifish for most Oregon hunting because very few posts on MM; however, having grown up in Utah, and living in ARizona for several years, I beg to differ that Oregon isn't a good state to hunt. I'll say the trophy potential isn't the same for a BC muley or bull as some other states but the opportunities are awesome.

Oregon could have some of that potential but do you really want to wait 10+ years to hunt elk in your own state?

I've lived here for 6 years and have had some pretty good luck with muleys, blacktails, bears, elk, coyotes, turkeys, waterfowl, trapping, and dont forget the fishing! It is a great state to live in and hunt, as long as I can still get my muley , pronghorn, and coues fix elsewhere.

my .02

Every state has positives and negatives. I've had the good fortune to live in 7 of the 11 Western states and Oregon just happens to have my favorite piece of real estate. There's more to life than record book heads, especially when almost any one of them can be bought with enough money.

When it comes to just hunting, its pretty tough to beat 1980's Idaho with 85% public land; Sept. rifle elk hunts and Dec. rifle deer hunts.

It's a little hard to post pictures every year when you only get a tag every 3-6 years.

Yeah but there's always the general spike tag. Maybe B&C can create a spike book so Oregon hunters can feel like they're in the game.

I'm glad so many Oregonians are content with our hunting, it keeps more of the NR quota in other states open for those of us who want something better.

Stay thirsty my friends

That would be great because the spike I got the year before last had 27 inch spikes do you think that would make the spike book?

thanks calfelkslayer

i sure wish i could have connected with him as well,
i never go a shot at that one. i stalked with in 80 yards once and with in 100 twice. but he had way to many does around. plus a handful of other littler antelope trying to get some off of his heard.

i tried decoying him a few times but he was not having that either.
if i can draw again ill have anew strategy for him

If it wasn't for the Cascades I don't know what I would do, at least I still get to hunt every year. The Blacktail hunting isn't what it used to be either, but there's still some good bucks to be had. My 2010 High Cascade buck, second choice hunt.

Bighorn hunting is very good in Oregon "IF" you are lucky enough to draw a tag. I was one of the lucky ones last year, 2011, to draw a tag. It wasn't an easy hunt, but a very successful one!

http://www.monstermuleys.info/photos/user_photos/66972011_sheep_hunt!_089.jpg

tchoate3,

Great looking ram- I will guess 6-7 years old and about 163 ish. my wife was also lucky enough to draw a tag this year and it was a blast, tough as hell but fun.

My favorite hunts are because they were with friends and family not just because "I got one".

tchoate3,
Beautiful ram, not quite the terrain I would expect to find on in. As far as people asking for help, that is what this site is all about. If someone does not want to help they should just keep quite. Nice photos from the rest of you. Those pictures show that Oregon has both opportunity and some trophy's.

Bill

dave32- nice to see someone doing good!

so for the guys who are "done with oregon" and go out of state, lets see those big animals!

so are you killing 180"+ bucks and 330+ bulls as soon as you go "out of state"?

you want to see MY pictures?

dude- i'm only 9 years old- this year i get to do the mentor program for the first time with my 7th cousins father in law....... it's going to kick asz!

Thanks, Airo it officially scored 171 5/8 and was 6 1/2, ODFW green scored it 172 6/8 & 5 1/2. Lik, I was hunting Hells Canyon country, where I was the north facing slopes were old burned timber in most of the canyons. It was very hot so that's where the sheep were hiding out.

With all your bitchin and chit talkin' you would think that you were a good successful hunter. So where's YOUR pictures? Post 'em up so we can see all the forkies you've slayed since you were 12. I'll be waiting!

sounds like i hurt your feelings......

so do you notice- the guy's who posted pictures are the ones you never see complaining- but all the guys, who are the FIRST to reply when someone is looking for info ( with the same ol' chit about " i've moved to other states, it's a waist of time, etc...)

i still want to see a picture of all the guys "who now go out of state" their big bucks and big bulls?

so i guess a guy can assume: that 80% who always post in the oregon forum really have no idea what their doing in the woods.

but the other 20% kick ass
;)

Hanginmeat,

Is this good enough for you, 2007 Montana whitetail. Do you want me to keep posting pictures for you? Oregon does have the opportunity to hunt every year, but the other states I hunt have better quality and very few other hunters. It is the total experience that I am looking for and Oregon just does not provide that on a consistent basis. Just because some of the folks on here don't hunt in Oregon doesn't mean that they can't hunt. 440 six pack and kickerbuck, who have posted have killed some impressive animals themselves. Oregon is an opportunity state. 75% of the muleys killed every year in Oregon are forks or spikes, not too difficult to do, but I will pass,

Rich

Lost,
I feel your pain. I have drawn 2 Nevada tags, both animals make book, a sheep tag in Idaho book, 160 Idaho whitetail, Utah elk 345 solo, and hunted Kansas 4 times killing several bucks over 150 and 1 that goes 170. I have hunted cali where my buddy and I both killed book bucks blacktails, yeah killed a boook oregon antelope and several book blacktail.Enough about how great I am.

Oregon game management is very poor. It needs to mirror Nevada. If you think I am great Lost has killed many more book animals than I have. JB in the real OC

i would be willing to bet Hangingmeat has some pics to post if he chose.

JB148 post some of the animals you just told us about.
not to prove it, but because we would all like to see them, or at least i do

Dave,
Thank you for the non-judgemental response. I will get some pictures up on this post. LostinOregon also has a load of great animals he has harvested. I think many of us or at least me doesn't want to hear the many unthoughtful commens when posting up stuff. Just my 2cents. I will post a few up. JB

Dandy buck Airo, I agree that the deer hunting in Oregon isn't that great. Looks like you found a good spot in Idaho though!

Here's a dandy a buddy got last year in ID, double main beam!!!
8687picture_002.jpg

also- because of the name "hanging meat", I thought you might like this one!3 guys and five tags, we packed alot of meat but it was a ton of fun.

My favorite hunts are because they were with friends and family not just because "I got one".

so is that all it takes to get people to post some pictures?

those are some decent bucks, nothing to write home about, but nothing to be ashamed of either. heck i'd probably shoot all of them on the last day or so on this years youth hunt.......

Damn nice bucks airo. There's alot of guys who spend big $$ and wait for many years to shoot bucks like that. Hope you and you buddy are going back this year so I can see what you gun down in 2012

We don't always get the one we are after but we always have a good time and at least kill decent bucks. For the record- two of those deer were taken on the last day, you won't kill a good one if you always shoot the first one.

My favorite hunts are because they were with friends and family not just because "I got one".

Amen to that. Here's what I want to see.....all the big animals that the guys who have collected points for eons have been able to take on those premium tags. I still contend that there are a few big animals taken with those tags, but many of the guys who get them, shoot the same animal that they could've shot on an OTC tag.

Missalot-

I totally agree, it's like the Sheep tag. All of the anticipation get's the best of most people and they punch out early. Most people will complain about a hunting season only being a week long but hell you got all year to scout. get after it!

My favorite hunts are because they were with friends and family not just because "I got one".

Most people will
>complain about a hunting season
>only being a week long
>but hell you got all
>year to scout. get after it!

Very true Airo! Most people give up after 3 or 4 days too!

hunt oregon- so you and dave32 have got to be related?

or you for sure hang out?

i think i got you two figured out----, it's cool to see some people in this state still know how to hunt...........
