I was considering applying for this unit. I was hoping to hunt velvet mulies in the high country with my hoyt. I've done some fishing in this area but never hunted it. Anyone hunted this unit? Is it tough to draw a non-res tag? Good bucks in the area? Is access limited? Your input is appreciated.

Check out this link and click on Hunt recap summaries and then deer: http://wildlife.state.co.us/huntrecap/index.asp

Looks like it is linked with 3 other units and only 300 people applied for over 600 tags. Looks like a sure thing even for nonresidents.

Don't know anything about the quality, but I am sure that Deerking does.

NMRaptor,

I have bowhunted that unit. Most of it is in the Holy Cross wilderness so your access is limited to yourself or pack animals. There are some places to get really isolated back in there though. In some places there are tons of people as well. If you like to hike then that is the place. As was stated before, you should have no problem drawing an archery tag. Shoot me an email if you want.
