I would suggest Gooches Guide service out of the Price area. I've hunted with them a bit and know Guy Mills a little. If I had that tag that's is who I would use. Good Luck. Fstop

Fstop, what are you talking about, your qualified yourself, volunteer here and help this guy out!!

HES FROM SLC HERE AND HES THINKING HE MIGHT WANT TO DO IT HIMSELF NOW BECAUSE OF THE PRICE HES BEEN TOLD. I TOLD HIM THIS IS GOING TO BE A ONCE-IN-A-LIFTIME TAG AND HE NEEDS TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF A GUIDE. NOTHING WRONG WITH DIY I LOVE THESE HUNTS. BUT WHEN THIS MIGHT BE THE ONLY TAG YOU MIGHT GET IT MIGHT BE THE WAY TO GO. (GUIDE) AGAIN THANKS FOR ALL THE IFO AND FEEL FREE TO PM WITH ANY INFO. THANKS

You might remind your friend that the regular archery elk hunters (spike/cow) are also out on that unit that time of year and it makes for a real tough hunt trying to compete with them. A guy I work with had the same permit last year. He hunted hard every chance he had, but every time a big bull bugled he had cow and spike hunters running towards the same herd. He ended up eating tag soup.

I would hire a guide or at least get as far away from roads as I could if I had that permit.IMHO

I would agree about the possible once in a lifetime tag. If your friend can swing it I too can vouch for the above and beyond efforts of Gooches. I know they got "at least" one monster last year.

I had that tag 3 years ago and did it DIY. We went 1 for 2 on bulls and the bull I killed was on the 2nd to last day of the hunt. The unit was over run with hunters. Made for a tough hunt. I would recommend a guide if He can swing it. I don't know Guy Mills but I have seen a video of his and have heard NOTHING but great reviews about them. He definatelty knows that unit. He also seems to be a great "archery" guide. Good luck in whatever you guy's choose. Post some pic's when it is all said and done!!

I dont know Guy Mills, but I have heard a lot of good things about his outfit and their knowledge of the Manti. If your buddy ends up doing it as a DIY, let me know. Ive hunted the Manti most of my life, including a LE ELk tag a few years ago. I can give him a few places to look at.

I JUST WANT TO SAY THANKS FOR ALL THE POSTS AND THE GUYS WILLING TO HELP OUT. IT'S GREAT TO SEE PEOPLE, HELP PEOPLE THEY DON'T EVEN KNOW OUT. THATS WHY I LOVE THIS SITE. EVEN THOUGH YOU GET YOUR BAD POST OR THE BASHING THAT GOSE ON. IT'S JUST NICE TO SEE ALL THE HELP. AGAIN THANKS

I live in Ephraim and I know the manti unit from Fairview to Mayfield. I am not a guide but I could show him around. I think that he could do the DIY hunt and do just fine After all it is called HUNTING. There is nothing wrong with having someone show you some good areas. This unit has alot of country with alot of elk, finding elk should not be hard. Size expectation is the facter.

LAST EDITED ON May-01-07 AT 12:24PM (MST)[p]THANKS FOR THE PM. PM SENT

I sent you a pm, I was on the Manti last night and saw four bulls with awesome growth already. I drew the tag last year and killed a dandy 365. Lets talk!
