Trump's Trade War

This will be interesting . I have always preached buy American and I live by that. it's my choice, I don't think it can be forced without serious repercussions.

Who will determine who the winners and losers are ? protection for one industry will lead to losses for another. the government shouldn't be a king maker.

If Trump can pull this off for ALL Americans not just those he deems worthy I can support some temporary pain to achieve the end result. but I really really doubt that's his goal or that he can pull it off. too little too late and with disingenuous objectives.

The DOW is down 1100 points in 3 days . they don't seem impressed.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-02-18 AT 02:24PM (MST)[p]I believe that there will be no tariffs imposed on the foreign steel or aluminum. It is a ploy to get the offending countries to come to the table. Mark my words this will not be enacted by executive order. Trump is far smarter that you give him credit for. He knows that in doing so would create havoc as it has every time it has been done. Like GWB did it and Hoover. Did not work out so good for either one. Hoover's put us in the great depression and GWB stopped his after only a year. It will not happen, history shows that it will not have the desired affect.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-02-18 AT 06:34PM (MST)[p]Maybe. Trump has done a lot of dumb things that looked dumb at the time, and still do. you can only bluff so often or it's not a bluff it's simply a lie. this will only work so long.

Is he bluffing ? one swamp critter who knows Trump well didn't think so. Trump told him get out and he did. unless, Trump is clever enough to screw a friend over to add credence to his bluff. eeeehhhh ......nah, he's not that clever.

Dude Trump is so crazy that he got little Kim to do something that Obama, Bush, and Clinton failed to do. Just give him time on the trade wars. I guess N. Korea was more of a priority with him.
RELH
___________________________________________________________

The U.S. pressure at the U.N. to get China and the rest of the international community to clamp down on North Korea also led to two resolutions that banned the export of coal, iron, lead and seafood from the country and the import of crude oil and other petroleum products into North Korea.

?The Trump administration has a strategy of reducing the North Korean threat,? Eberstadt said. ?Trump is undercutting the capabilities of North Korea?s nuclear program by undercutting its economy and North Korea?s appeasement seems to be motivated as a way to reduce pressure on them.?

Trump?s sometimes brash rhetoric and his love for picking a fight via Twitter, while a point of contention at times even among his own staff, also appears to have had an effect at bringing North Korea to the negotiating table. He has nicknamed the North Korean strongman ?Little Rocketman,? in a roundabout way called him ?short and fat? and countered Kim?s bragging about North Korea?s nuclear capabilities by tweeting that he also has a ?Nuclear Button, but it is a much bigger & more powerful one than his, and my Button works!?

?Trump?s rhetoric has had a psychological effect on the North Koreans,? Yun Sun, the co-director of the East Asia Program at the Stimson Center, a research organization based in Washington D.C. ?Trump is regarded as a wildcard, so North Korea doesn't know if what he says is just an empty threat or if he will actually follow through on what he says.?

Yun added: ?What really worries them is that he has followed through with some of his threats.?

The dotard did it. but exempted Canada and Mexico where most of our imports come from. " gina " is a minor player, we import more steel from Brazil than " gina " .

So little will change for the steel industry other than they'll use this as an excuse to raise prices on everything with metal in it. The EU says they may put a heavy tax on Harleys among other things, which are made in Ryan's home state.

This is what happens when a retard is left alone at the golf course.

President Trump is right to call for tariffs on steel and aluminum imports. Tariffs are often used as a last resort, but the domestic steel industry has reached that point. Rather than attacking the president for his proposal, all Americans should applaud him for beginning to end our nation?s wholesale surrender on trade.

The president's action is already producing results, as U.S. Steel announced Wednesday that it will restart one of its idled blast furnaces in Granite City, Illinois and create approximately 500 jobs.

I have visited communities deeply affected by steel imports.

Coatesville, Pennsylvania is home to the oldest continuously operating steel mill in the country, and is among the last places in America capable of supplying the military with steel armor plate that meets exacting defense specifications.

In 2007, when the Pentagon escalated the war effort in Iraq, Coatesville?s sister mill in nearby Conshohocken turned its production on a dime to fulfill military orders for the steel needed in mine-resistant, ambush-protected vehicles.

Today, both mills teeter on the brink of collapse. So workers there listened intently when candidate Trump promised to rearrange trade agreements and bring factory jobs back to this country.

The president's announcement last week of a 25 percent tariff on imported steel and a 10 percent tariff on imported aluminum is precisely what he promised. Enacting these tariffs will restore some needed sanity to the global trade in the metals markets, which is in imbalance because of the actions of China?s government.

Beijing has followed a state-led policy with a goal of dominating the global steel industry. This has been so successful that China now makes half the world?s steel. Big government subsidies enable Chinese steel mills to dump steel on world markets at prices below the cost of production, creating unfair competition for steel mills in the U.S. and other nations. There is no end in sight to the overcapacity China has created.

Chinese steel has consequentially flooded outside of its borders and roiled the global market, affecting mills and workers everywhere.

In the United States ? the most open steel market in the world ? 10 blast furnaces have closed since 2000, and our remaining mills only operate at roughly 75 percent of their capacity.

More than a quarter of our market is serviced by imports. During a decade of slow but steady economic expansion, the American steel industry has instead remained in a malaise, its workers plagued by the threat of layoffs.

So the bail out of the Auto industry in 2008-2009 and it's high cost labor was a Republican rallying cry about the evils of Government picking winners and loser. Now that same clowns have their guy in the White House, the government picking winners and losers is a great and honorably thing.

Do you fake conservatives stand for a single core principle of what you claim or is your entire political beliefs for sale when Trump beckons you?

Who pays for Tariffs and what do they cost the economy?

whether you thing this will work or not there is one very good question, why ? even as lame as these tariffs are if they have any effect it's counterproductive.

Who needs a job in this country ? if you're not working you don't to work. period. the rational for this move is pure bullchit.

At some point you have to ask WTF ?

I know you are a Trump lover and facts have little meaning because of your world view that everyone is crazy except you and Trump however, you should take at least 5 minutes some time to attempt to read what is actually happening instead of relying on Trump to tell you what and how to think.

We export so little steel that it makes your statement laughable. 90% of our exports go to three countries: Canda (50%), Mexico (39%) and Italy (1%). All which have zero tariffs on our steel or aluminum.

https://www.trade.gov/steel/countries/pdfs/2017/q3/exports-us.pd

Just say you don't give a Phuk about what happens and that as long as Trump does it, you will love it. That is an easier argument to make for Trump's Dumb Stooges because the one you are attempting to make has no basis in fact.

The orange retard's king making is going to hit ag good. and even with this the clown says he might cancel NAFTA which would be an even bigger hit to the industry.

Trump talks out his azz so much and lies like a rug so chances are he's not going to do anything on NAFTA but even suggesting it show how stupid he is.

Wheat reached it's all time high while Obama was president. todays price is lower than most of his presidency, and it's set to go lower.

Unlike you slantheads I won't give Obama credit for good prices like you would Trump. it's mostly weather related. what I will give Obama credit for is not intentionally phuking the market up as Trump is.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-03-18 AT 03:19PM (MST)[p]lets take a look at those China tariffs. For one the pork Industry will not feel it much. China owns Smithfield Packing, the second largest pork producer in the world. So do you think they are going to damage there own company. NO. China pretty much owns this country already. We have made them rich by building all of the manufacturing plants in China. That is nothing but corporate greed. Anything to make an extra percentage on a product. I wish Trump would impose a 25 percent tariff on any goods coming into this country that the profits lead back to an American corporation. It would not take long to bring this economy back from the brink if American corporations would bring back there manufacturing to the US.
Back to China, they own our azzes and we are the only ones that can do anything about it. How, with our consumer power. If it says made in China put it back on the shelf and look for an American made alternative. To be a American I think we should buy American. I stopped buying Goodyear products since they moved a lot of there tire factories to Mexico. Americans lost there jobs and now Goodyear makes more money. Screw them and all like them. It's just pure greed. I will go without eating before I ever go into a Walmart. When Sam was alive it was a great company. Not know that his greedy kids have control. Screw them too.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-03-18 AT 03:54PM (MST)[p]Now you only have to convince the rest of Americans who are used to buying lower priced goods.

Listening to a Trump supporter talk about about Corporate greed is rich. How much of Trump's private label goods were made in China? 95% and the 5% in Vietnam? Why was that? If you don't like Goodyear because it outsource you should hate Trump because he was doing it before Goodyear.

The pork industry is at a near low already so even small shake up in the supply of pork can send producer prices downward. It isn't Smithfield that gets hurt, lower pork prices ups their profits, it is the American pork producers. Not that many on here have a clue or care much about who produces your food and fiber.

About 27 percent of U.S. pork production was exported last year, with China and Hong Kong combining to rank as the second-largest international market by volume. Ask the people who are marketing Ag. products if they are cheering on this move. I have had several farmers in my office who voted for Trump and all of them are livid at being used as pawns in both the NAFTA deal and the Chinese Tariffs.

Not to worry Nemont. I did not and will not buy Trump products if the made in tag says anything except made in the USA. It is a standard that a lot of people should adopt. It would turn this country around in less than an election cycle. As far as the ag producers, well they have kind of crapped in there own nests for years. Greed again is there downfall. They are trying to raise enough crops to be able to export to boost the bottom line. They can make enough of a profit for a good life just raising for domestic consumption. Greed is the common thread in all of the economic problems. Corporate farming is no different. Mr. and Mrs. American farmer make a good living doing something that they love. It is the big Ag corporations that are killing the farmers. Just like everything else in this country, corporate greed is ruining our way of life.
How about you Nemont, do you bother to check the tags or print on the products that you and your family purchase? I encourage everyone to do it. It will make you feel better and will boost the economy at the same time.

I live 140 miles from the nearest WalMart and 280 from the nearest Costco. I buy nearly everything from local mom and pop establishments, including my locally owned Sporting Goods and Hunting store.

Made in America is something I try to buy whenever I am making a purchase.

Now when you are in a grocery store do you ask yourself where that meat or produce was actually grown? How much of you consumption of food is from a foreign source? Do you even know? I bet you don't.

Oh but I do know. The pork my family eats is raised 2 miles down the road from us. Local hog farmer, personal friend. The beef that we eat is raised by another local farmer. That steer is put on a feed lot a couple of months prior to being butchered. Yes I buy the entire beef. As for our poultry, my neighbor raises free range chickens. From her we get chicken and eggs. Living close to the coast, we buy or seafood from local fisherman. During the growing season we buy from the local farmers market. My wife and I put up jellies and jam during the peak season. We go to orchards to pick our fruit when in season. So I would say most of what we consume is locally sourced. I do know that some things are not so easy to get locally. As for the cloths on my back, I do know that they are made right here in the USA. If the tag does not say made in USA, guess what, no go. The only thing that I have found that is the hardest to get made in the USA is shoes. Boots, not problem, sneakers that is next to impossible.

The ones I am wearing right now, were made in Canada. I have been wearing this brand since about 2007 when I discovered them before a bird hunting trip to South Dakota.

They are the best underwear I have found for outdoorsman.

China controls most of the world's rubber and rare earth supply. remember when the Japs were going to play hardball with the chinks a few years ago ? yeah, that ended fast and with an apology. if they want to do the same with us it will end the same way. $750 a tire for DIY's Subaru at Walmart will bring him around.

The chinks are smarter than Trump all the way around. midterms coming up how do you hit him the hardest? by targeting the place that gave him the minority he needed to win. ag's already in the chitter let's drive it to the ground orange man.

Yes they need it. but the chinks will starve their people to the ground if that's what it takes to win. looks like Hop Sing will be eating more fish heads for a while.

Of course it would be unfair to not admit rump would do the same to us.

Ocho, you need to a little more research prior to posting misleading BS. China may control the rubber, however there is no rubber used in the modern tire. It is all synthetic compounds that are produced here in the US. And the rare earth materials are being found all over in new locations. So China's corner on that market is coming to a rapid close. And I would walk before I ever drive a Subaru, unlike you. Who would sell out his country to get a few more of your relatives snuck in from Mexico.

Maybe you should do some research before you tell other people to do research. this is how you wingnuts work, lie enough and those around you will believe it.

Everyone is counting on this being another one of Trump's mouth dumps that he will backtrack on just like gun control and the tariffs will fade away on both sides . if it escalates this is going to be big problem you can't lie your way out of.

Yo DUMB AZZ check your false facts. China did not even make the top 15 exporters of rubber. Idiots never stop.

It is tires where it impacts the consumer in most cases. Especially the Trucking industry.

http://www.worldstopexports.com/rubber-tires-exports-country/

The U.S. Tire industry is deeply concerned with it's ability to compete when President Trump's tariffs go into effect.

https://www.prnewswire.com/news-rel...pposing-proposed-steel-tariffs-300610263.html

So if you are buying U.S. made tires you are also buying foreign made steel in most cases.

China has little to gain and much to lose from irate and impulsive gestures. Its deep interests are better served by seeking out the high ground - hoping the world will quietly forgive two decades of technology piracy - and biding its time as Mr Trump destroys American credibility in Asia.

The US president is a strategic gift if handled carefully. He is so ignorant and fundamentally shallow that he might even be induced to hand over Taiwan in exchange for a face-saving frippery on trade.

That truly would be the "art of the deal". For China.

It's easy to forget rural America with the Trump dumpster fire stinking the country up so much. but the NY liberal's decision to put unions first has not gone away.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/midwest-...ar-steelworker-neighbors-cheer-100002564.html

The plan to buy ag country off before the midterms with handouts and low interest loans to offset the union gains seems like a great plan . if you're a liberal opposed to capitalism.

Ha ha ha ha ! now lets add manufacturer's to the list of businesses who need a bail out.

I guess guys like me who go by some steel to fix a head gate are the only ones who's pay the tariff. but if Trump gives me enough money for phuking my export markets up it all comes out in the wash right ? priceless.

Today it's not so hot, what's coming tomorrow ? the trade war is not helping me in the markets or my business. WINNING !!! . that's what matters. and it's what will be on voters minds in November. be very afraid.

So you're good with screwing the markets , paying me for my losses and exempting manufacturing industry from the tariffs just so Trump can have his day with the unions ? yes or no ?

Don't worry crybaby you'll get paid.

264,

Why would 440 need to get paid? If the export markets for ag products were not screwed up by the President then we wouldn't have to again embrace more spending to pay 440.

Why are Trump's Dumb Stooges so enamored with being liberals?

In any event your wallet will be getting fatter. Your nuts. You remind me of the guy who happens to date a most beautiful woman and on the first date ejaculates down his leg while immediately blaming her because she wasnt moist enough for you. This is Classic Anti Trump Derangement Syndrome.

How do you justify fighting with all of our allies, even Canada ? this is phuking insanity.

Trump is playing king maker and you chumps are fine with it because he is the king in your little minds. who is he to decide who wins and who loses ? this is not capitalism it's something between communism and a dictatorship.

Yes hay prices are up. but they'll go up more if Canada imports enough. and WTF is the point in trying to get them to become self sufficient by pricing us out of the market ? retards.

While I am not the biggest fan of Trump, I do agree that it is finally time to try and equal out the trade deficit.

You got to give the man credit in one aspect. For once he is quoting accurate stats, and those accurate stats show a very lopsided trade agreement.

Not really. post the factual stats.

If Canada has terrifs on US dairy products but buys US hay to feed their herd is that really a one way street ?

So by your logic, the correct answer is to put tarrifs on hay, cause that would equal it out?

I know that's not what you were saying exActly but that is an asinine argument. So it is okay to put tariffs on us, but it is not okay to put tariffs on them?

And here is a story about the trade difference.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-44438908

You simpletons should stick to smoking weed and sucking dongs.

If Canada didn't have teriffs on dairy and more domestic producers sold them milk I'd sell my hay just the same. dairy exports wouldn't amount to jack chit anyway this is just your excuse to go down on your orange man again. neither you or he give a FF about dairy or ag in general.

Looks like phuking up the canadian markets isn't good enough. let's kick ag in the nuts again.
