Hello All,

Can you recommend what type of binoculars are good for glassing the terrain for mule deer?

What's your budget? What type of country do you plan to hunt? How much experience do you have glassing (really glassing, not just looking through binoculars)?

200-300 hundred dollars, wyoming (area j), first time out west never hunted/shot over 100 yds for a kill but i do practice at 200 yards whenever i get the chance.

Remember, the better the optics the less you have to walk. (Identifying your target will be much easier at any range) If this is going to be your only trip out to the West to hunt then I would suggest Nikon bino's in the above price range that you stated. The optic size to be at least 10x42's. I have a set of 10x50 lookouts and I enjoyed them when I was using them. The more and more I hunted western states I decided to go all out and purchase what I consider great optics. I got the EL 10x42 Swarovski bino's and use a STS80 spotting scope. If you are hunting wide open places then you may need a good spotting scope. Out west, the optics are really more important than the weapon that you will be using. I hope to purchase the Swaroxski 15x56's next. Using a tripod makes them invaluable. Best of luck in your trip out West.

I think you would be happy with a 10x for the wide open, across canyon glassing typical in the west. I have the Leupold Olympic 10x50's. They are phase coated and exceptionally clear. They cost about $350 + - but Leupold does other Wind Rivers in the $250 range. And Leupold really stands behind their products, I'll testify to that!

My two cents
Leica, Leica, Leica. Get the Ultravids in 10x42 or 12x50s. Also check the Duovid 10 + 15x50. You can not go wrong if you are looking for the best quality.

"We must HUNT"

thanks for the great advice, i did invest in a swarovski 3-12 x 50 scope for my rifle. ill look up the nikons and see what i can find.

thanks

My vote would have to go to the Stiener Predators 10 x 42. Bought mine from Eagle Optics off the Web, best price around. About $700.00. Go to eagleoptics.com, they carry the other brands also listed.

Good Hunting, Larry

I think I am going to be able to buy one good set of bions this year. Right now I am leaning toward the Leica ultravid 10X50s. I see the Swarovski has the 10X42s. They are in the same ballpark in price. Is there much of a difference between 50 and 42. Is the average person going to be able to see the diffrence.

It seams like a lot of people use two diffrent pairs of binos. Like a 8 or 10 power and a pair of 15 power binos. Do you use the 15 power ones in place of a spotting or do you have a spotting scope to. I was looking at the Leica Duovid 10 +15 X50 binos and they were real nice and sound like they might be good for me sense I will only be able to afford one piece of optics.

I have the Lieca 10x42 BA's and yes they are very good binocs. Having said that I must admit that Zeiss are brighter though.

I bought the Leica 10-15x50 duovids this year, and I can say they are the best optics I have ever touched!!!!!!!! I have owned steiner, zeiss, swarovski, minox, optplyth and a few of the other cheaper brands. They are not cheap, but will be a investment that will last. Todd
