Elk Hunt Question

I am hoping to fling arrows at elk for the first time ever this year.... I was under the impression that some of the area near strawberry was in a spike unit that I could hunt with my bow.. am I mistaken or is there area near strawberry that I can hunt with the OTC tag.. I checked the proclamation and I cannot find the unit that I am thinking of... any help???

and just so I am sure that I understand things correctly, I can purchase an OTC archery tag on June 14th and then I can hunt anywhere in the spike or general bull areas and take a respective bull???

That whole area is spike only! If you travel a few miles north or towards vernal a ways it becomes general bull. As far as a "respective bull," well, it depends on your perception of a "respective bull." I hunted the Strawberry area for the entire season and saw ONE spike! Incredible bulls... 280 to 360 is what I saw throughout the hunt. I did however have many cows come within "bow range."

Well, have fun this year and good luck! Hunting elk with a bow is by far the most rewarding expirence.

Spikebull

Thanks... thats what I thought... how do I find a map to show me where the boundries are??? or is there a description on the DWR website???

I hunted that area last year on the muzzleloader hunt and saw some really nice bulls... since this is my first archery elk hunt, I would be really happy with a cow??

Just a few months left!!!
