Antler Growth in Utah

A good friend has an early rifle Panguitch Lake bull tag, just wondering if there has been enough moisture so far to insure good antler growth?

Between the lack of any normal rainfall and with the constant increase in fuel cost I have had 3-4 guys ALREADY tell me they are turning in the LE bull tag they drew!

Kinda confusing to me but it is basically a dream tag to have and almost once in a lifetime opportunity so I can't say that I blame or doubt them....

THERES GOOD FEED RIGHT NOW!!!

BUT IF IT DON'T CHANGE IT COULD BE BAD!!!

THE ONLY bobcat THINKING IT MIGHT BE A LITTLE EARLY TO TURN A TAG BACK!!!

lots of feed now I agree. See what the rains do in June and July. Could still be a great year. Do some scouting end of July and you will have a lot better idea on antlers. Good luck.

LAST EDITED ON Jun-01-07 AT 09:54AM (MST)[p]I saw a monster muley the other day in Sandy. So I know some are putting on quite a bit of growth. I can't speak for the Elk though.

Robb,

If your friends turn their tags back in, do they get their points back, also do they get an additional point from this years draw, If they don't get that extra point it seems like they would be hurting their chances for future draws?

Just curious

jd, one of the biggest flaws of Utah's draws is the allowance of turning a tag back in and getting your points, even getting an additional one for being 'unsuccessful' this year. That leads to 'point-banking'.

I would NOT turn a tag back this year because of the lack of rain. Teh antler growth will be fine for this year. Next year could be a problem if the drought stays around.

I was out over the weekend and I feel sorry for your friends who turned in their tags. Cuz we saw some tremendous bulls over the weekend seems there is enough feed cuz there is no problem with them packin on the bone. Saw a couple a bucks that should be great this year also. I agree if we don't get some water this year next year will suffer.
