Saw this pic on another site and thought you guys would like to see it here. It was taken last fall in Saskatchewan with a bow. It should rank #1 for Archery in Canada. Just another Canadian HAWG!!!

That's a giant buck, but, 276 Boone and Crockett???? There must be several inches of horn I can't see. I could be wrong but it doesn't look like there's enough trash to get it that high. Not calling you a liar BCBOY, just wondering if it's a different scoring system? Steve

Greybeard,
I saw this on another site (albertabucks) and several of the guys (solid members that really know their stuff) vouch for it. I know that photos can really be deceiving sometimes. Heck, even looking through some of the State Record Books has had me scratching my head at times. I've even double checked in the B&C on a few because I was sure from the pic the buck mustn't score so high, but I have been proven wrong each time. I think on this Sask buck the mainframe is freakin' huge.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-04-04 AT 11:53AM (MST)[p]276 Canadian, about 235 US. Got to convert their scores to US, just like their money I guess.

Nice buck, but doesn't look like any more than 35 inches of trash, and I don't think the typical frame is even close to 240, more like 200. Again, great buck, but that score seems way too high.

He does not look like he would score that high to me either but I can guarantee I would not care what he scored if I harvested him, what a SLUG!!! A guy would be hard pressed to ever kill a deer as good as that one.

I do find it odd that everyone at the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation Convention, where this photo was taken, would have all been duped by someone trying to bump up the score to their already monster buck. But, of course, the MonsterMuley.Com Police are out in full force and calling BS on this buck. Maybe I'm naive and take people at their word, but I can tell you that if all you're seeing is 35 inches of trash you need to open your eyes a bit, cause I'm seeing way more trash than that. I'm also willing to bet that there is a bunch of trash I can't see. I don't know this guy or this buck from Adam. I saw the pic and I thought you guys might enjoy it. It is no sweat off my back what you "Professional Photo Scorers" call on this buck. LMFAO!!!

I do agree with Drummond, I wouldn't even try to score him in the field. I'd be trying to get an arrow or rock or whatever weapon I had going in his direction. He's an absolute GIANT like I said before, Steve

That is one big motherf---er! Especially with a bow! Big time congrats to the hunter!

LAST EDITED ON Apr-05-04 AT 10:39AM (MST)[p]All right now that I am a professional photo scorer, lets get exact and add up that trash and see how this buck does. I will try to be generous.

First on the bucks right side
Off the G2 6"
off the G3 5" total with three little stickers
off the MB 9" dropper
20" on the bucks right

on the bucks left
off the G1 2" extra brow tine
off the G2 6" total with the two stickers
and a 10" inline
18" on the bucks left

add 18 and 20 and you get 38", way higher than the 35" I orginally guessed.

Now to stay generous lets say that the typical frame is 210", add the 38" of trash and you get 248". Still 28" short of 276.

Maybe they scored it in metric.

Regardless, it is still a great buck.

BCBOY Thank you for sharing another great Buck, I'm sure that it score what the sign says or there would be a ton of guys at the big game convention claiming that their deer was the true champion, As always you will have a few that can't see the forest due to the trees. PLEASE keep those great pictures coming, That deer is huge and to be taken with a bow, the guy had to have the shakes seeing that deer up close and personal.

Score? Who cares? It is a very nice looking buck, thanks for posting the picture.

If and when BCBOY posts the score sheet on this buck, if it is off I know he will apologize and eat a little crow, but if it is legit, will you nay-sayers enjoy a hearty helping of crow also??

Rut

I dont think anybody would be eating crow, we all agree that this deer is a slug and that anyone of us that would be fortunate to kill a deer like this would care less what he scores. Looks can be deceiving, I was just wondering if it was scored using another system such as buckmasters or something because it takes a ton of trash to make a 280" deer. The typical frame on that thing is amazing but I just dont see enough trash to push him close to 276".

What, no one calling BS on Daxter's measurements? Quote of Dexter's post, "off the G3 5" total with three little stickers", doesn't that make ya wonder what the hell the guy is thinkin? LOL! Sorry Daxter, but I think you are way off. Save the pic to your computer and then enlarge it. I see way more trash than would you are giving it. I see 8 extras on the right and 8 extras on the left. (I'll let you figure out where they are). I haven't seen the score sheet on this BAD BOY but when I add things up I'm getting 60 inches of trash. Look a little harder boyz. I think this thing is the real deal. Nothing like stirring up the pot eh? LOL! And no, I haven't been smokin' any of that BC BUD to come up with that number. LMAO!!

A for sure GIANT! But it doesnt look over 270 n/t at allllll. But then again sometimes the pics dont do it justice... Still a hell of a buck. Well really its a lot bigger than a "hell of a buck", what a monster.

Come on guys, does it really matter down to the exact inch what this buck scores? It always amazes me when guys sit here and think they know exactly what a deer scores by seeing a picture on a computer. Let alone a buck like this. We have no idea what kind of mass this thing has or even the width. Let's just take it for what it is......huge!

I just received the Pope and Young newsletter and I did notice a non-typical that scored around 276. I also believe that it was taken in Canada. When I get home I will look at it again to verify. I also agree it is hard to score off of just a picture. There is no doubt that it is one awesome buck.

Later,
IB

I guess some of you guys would just have to shoot that buck before you ever had a clue he scores so high. I just did a quick estimate of the trash and came up with six extras on the left for 33" and eight extras on the right for 43". That's 76" of nontypical tines. Combined with a net 200" frame and voila you get 276.

Lets settle it. Chitty picture that doesn't do the buck justice. Boom, whack, get'er done and no one would let that hawg go regardless of the score. How wide?

From now on I am going to have Cowkiller score everything I shoot :)

This has been a fun post.

I admit that pictures can be deciving, so I will say no more about this buck. It is a fantastic buck. Anytime hunters argue about how high over 200" a buck is, it is just a bunch of hot air. Great buck, period.

FOR ALL YOU DOUBTERS!!!LOL!!!!

Picked up the new issue of Big Buck Magazine today and they say that Saskatchewan had a 274 2/8 inch archery buck this past fall. Sounds like the story on the buck will appear in a upcoming issue. Be on the look out for that later this year. They also say that Sask had a amazing year for 2003. 175 mule deer made the Sask Record Book. The largest typical was 201 3/8.
BTW, how does the crow taste?

RE: FOR ALL YOU DOUBTERS!!!LOL!!!!

Helluva buck! I'll bet he'll rank high in P&Y. What is his main frame anyway?

RE: FOR ALL YOU DOUBTERS!!!LOL!!!!

I'm sure there is alot of folks just lining up to say WHAT!!!!!!!SORRY.
When you get a chance to post a picture of this buck out of the Big Buck Magzine please do. I sure would like to see how big his body was.

RE: FOR ALL YOU DOUBTERS!!!LOL!!!!

I would be very interested to see the score sheet on this buck and any other pictures from the Big Buck magazine that might show it from a different angle. No crow for me just yet.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-19-04 AT 08:57PM (MST)[p]LMAO!!! When this buck's story is put in the mag I'll be sure to let all you doubters know. LOL! If anyone gets the P&Y mag and they list it, make sure to let Dax know. My guess is he still wouldn't believe it. It is all a conspiracy anyways. Canadians grow big bucks just to make you guys jealous of us. We need at least one thing other than Hockey to rule over you Yanks. :)

RE: FOR ALL YOU DOUBTERS!!!LOL!!!!

Hey , Hey B.C Boy

Don't be callin me Yank, my ancestors fought for the Stars and Bars and we would of won except we ran out of men and bullets.

RE: FOR ALL YOU DOUBTERS!!!LOL!!!!

Daxter and all other professiomnal photo scorers:

I live in Saskatchewan and am familiar with this buck. This rack was at an awards night last month, and about oh...I don't know, maybe 500 people...got to see it in person. Curiosly enough, the rack had been scored by then, by of all things, hehehe, a real live official P&Y scorer. (We do have them up here, can't say for sure about any real live Profesional Photo scorers though). You are right though, there was some controversy over the score. The initial score was just shy of 277, and those of you who know archery realize the importance of that number. The controversy came in the fact that the P&Y scorer did not score one point because he was not willing to call it legal. Those of us that have seen this rack will tell you that the point is legal. So in reality, it should have scored slightly higher. The score after 60 days was 274 and change. Your OFFICIAL photo score sheet is low on all accounts. The typical frame went 219 net. Add 55 and change on the non-typ and the score is what it is. It has been officially scored and that is that. I would suggest that you realize there are real live official scorers outside of the US and they follow the same rules as the ones down there.
By the way, this buck was known to a few hunters who had been trying very hard to tag him the last three years. They, and the guy who shot him, all say the same thing.....he was bigger last year.
I'm sure you'll have some reason to disagree.

RE: FOR ALL YOU DOUBTERS!!!LOL!!!!

My congratulations to the hunter on buck that turned out to be lots better than I thought (I never said it wasn't a nice buck).

I guess I will have to cross being a professional photo scorer off my list of possible careers.

RE: FOR ALL YOU DOUBTERS!!!LOL!!!!

Hey wardk, you don't have any information on the guy that took that awesome buck. If you could round up a name and phone number I would love to talk to that guy and hear his awesome experience. You can send me the info. to [email protected] Thanks!

RE: FOR ALL YOU DOUBTERS!!!LOL!!!!

Ward,
I was only off by 5 inches on the trash. Not bad for a professional photoscorer eh? LOL! 219 net mainframe. WOW!!! That is very, very impressive. Can't wait to hear the whole story behind this buck.
Funny how Dax was the only one man enough to eat some crow. HeHeHe. Where are all the Doubters lining up to say, "uh, well, uh, maybe I was wrong." Photos don't ever do justice and some of the MM pros should have realized that. :)

RE: FOR ALL YOU DOUBTERS!!!LOL!!!!

That is terrible, it's vague at best. I want Glen's # and address so that I can hear the story of how the giant buck was taken. Starting to get a little itchy for the hunts to start I guess, but anytime you see a 270 inch buck being taken with a bow, it's enough to get you going. Let me know if you ever find anything else out on how I can get in contact with Glen Miller.

RE: FOR ALL YOU DOUBTERS!!!LOL!!!!

Glen's buck was scored at 274-5/8's for first place in B&C for the 25th Awards.
Second placed went to a lady who took her buck in 1961 and her score was 269.
Third place was to a friend of mine, Hermon's was 259-5/8's. In fact, he gained 7 points fron the original net score done in 1995 to put him in 3rd.
Forth place was 252-7/8's
Fifth place was 248-4/8's
