Since I've moved to Salt Lake area, I'm thinking of buying a OTC rifle general bull tag. I know the elk population is low in West Desert East but can anyone tell me if they've had success there? I'm going to scout the piece of Wasatch NF later. Or should I be looking at the areas east of SLC?
Thanks in advance.

Go East of Salt Lake City until you hit the Colorado border and then get an OTC bull elk tag;)

Utah's general elk hunt is just about like it's general deer hunt-a good excuse to go camping.

If you've got access to private it can be great.

If you really want to do it, save yourself some gas and just hunt the northern side of Parleys Canyon up towards the summit along the trail one of the best spots in the state to kill a general season branch antlered bull.

Do you have any more info on this hunt? I am active duty military and am getting deployed during scouting season. Any aditional info helps.

Thanks again

plan on it just being an armed camping trip and you'll have fun. It's like when I golf, if I know there's no way I'm going to do better than 100 then I enjoy my day much more, no frustration.

I've had some luck on the general elk hunts but not much. I can't afford an out of state tag this year. I was thinking of going down to the Henry mountains to even see if I can see elk there. I know there isn't much of a herd there but you never know. Maybe the Fillmore area. Do I do a spike bull unit? What's on your mind about the Utah elk hunt?

Utah is a great place to hunt elk that one year you draw a tag in a life time. I figured that in 24 more years and I should finally draw a Wasatch rifle tag.

Spike hunts are fun if you take the kids.

I have hunted Colorado for the last couple years, and I plan to until by some luck I actually draw a tag. Or until the Ute tribe stops killing off all the cows on their late season hunts and there is something to hunt on the state side again.

The DWR is the ones to blame. They are the ones that started all the cow hunts. If it wasn't for rez land there wouldnt be any elk out here.

Has anyone had any luck contacting the biologist's/wardend in the Northern region of Utah? I have put a few calls in with no luck. I am interested in the Kamas area does anybody have any info on the areas? I have one of the non resident buck/bull combo tags. Unfortunatly I have not been able to scout and am running a little behind due to the fact I am active duty military and currently deployed. Any info is appreciated. Thanks Dave Bergman
