Unit 76, 66A ID

Get in shape! That way you can get away from the crowds. I used to hunt 66A and 76, but I started running into too many hunters for my liking on an out-of-state archery elk hunt. I liked 66A more than 76 myself. Freedom Idaho was the nearest town to where I hunted.

I have hunted 66A for about 10 years now and every year it gets more and more crowded I am not sure that you can get far enough away from the crowds in that unit . 76 is bigger but more roads and
access thus more pressure . just pick a spot and make the best of it because you are going to run into other hunters no matter where yo go in either spot .

What kind of archery hunting are you planning on doing? If you are the type that likes to pack a few miles and hunt the high elevations then there are some good places for that in both units. I hunted idaho two years ago for muleys and all I saw were bulls everywhere you looked. I'll PM you if you want some specific spots to go.

LAST EDITED ON Jun-13-07 AT 11:40PM (MST)[p]Leave your calls in camp and chase bugles, the most call shy elk I have ever hunted. Take your tree stands and sit on water or trails. We've taken three bulls in 76 two on water and one chasing bugles. Quit the unit due to too many hunters. This is the bull I killed, he was locked up fighting another bull, I snuck in and slipped one into his boiler room while they were going at it.
