I have a or I should say will have in my hands a Co plo elk archery tag for one of those units I dont remember wich. NW of Gunnison . 9000 acrea of private surrounded by NF . The ranch goes way high all the way to timberline with plenty of elk . What can I expect ? Anyfeedback is very much appreciated.

If it is 68 that is an OTC tag for archery and rifle so I would bet you aren't going to see any bruisers there. Plus I don't see the point of having the landowner tag unless that gets you on to the ranch which in CO I don't think they have to let you. So I would definetley check into that.

67 on the other hand is a limited tag for all seasons and has been for awhile now. I would suspect the quality of the bulls and the quality of the hunt will improve due to this as that seems to be the case in most areas.

Hey Feddoc,

Do you archery hunt or rifle hunt 68? Do you ever wander up into 681 or the south side of 551?

hardcore247,

I rifle hunt third season in 68...since I can remember. I think we have changed camping spots 3 times since 1969 or so, when I was 14 and first went up there. Some of the guys I hunt with have been in that area since the 50's.
Once in awhile, I will stray up into 681, but haven't hunted 551 at all. I have good friends that archery hunt 68 and 681.

How about you? Do you hunt that area regularly?

67 might be limited for bull, but they give out enough bull tags to keep the quality basically the same as any OTC unit. I think they give out 5-600 bull tags combined. I think your odds of killing a bull in the unit might be a little better, but I woudn't bank on finding a wall hanger by any means.
