The meeting was a great success for the Sportsmen. In a condensed version: Sportsmen outnumbered Anti's. We had about 150 sportspeople and just a handful around 10 anti's. This was a HUGE surprise and went a long way in showing the Commissioners how serious we Sportsmen are. Arizona Deer Association offered to show our financial statements that indicate where our money is being raised privately and given to the department for wildlife while the Anti groups have never put their money where their mouth is. In addition to this, the commission agreed to immediately work with ADA to come up with Kaibab population counts instead of guesses based on 1960 information. The commision voted for 500 doe tags on the Kaibab instead of the recommended 1500. This was a big disappointment made worse by one commissioner, Mike Golightly who opened his mouth when he shouldnt have. The commissioners were prepared to vote for 250 tags and Mike changed their mind. Mike is a hunter but he was more concerned about politics and how good he personally looked. He needs to change his ways. Bottom line, this years wildlife plan approved by the commission was a victory for wildlife in AZ and for the future even despite the 500 doe tags. Thanks to everyone who helped support the Sportspeople of AZ............... Allen Taylor......
