Depends...Where I hunt, I don't hear much and leave the calls at home most the time. I see plenty of elk and know they are there but they don't make a peep. This is in NE Oregon. I also hear of guys that hunt the same country I do talking about how they bugle elk in all the time and how they are bugling there heads off. I don't know if they are truthful or are tooting their horns making themselves sound like awesome hunters. All I know is where I'm at I just don't hear much and still hunt for them. It's hard but I have had my opportunities and killed a spike last year. Oregon is a tough state.

Some elk come in some don't. I would bring a cow call bugling attracts hunters. Bulls I have called come in very quiet sneaking in behind you. Have a partner calling for you.
