I drew 2nd combined season, any sugestions on where to look for a cow? It's too far for me to scout or I would. Thanks if you can help........-jim

I have hunted GMU 211 and saw several deer and a few elk on the SE side of Duffy's Mountain.I saw a few other hunters so you won't be alone but it did not bother my hunting. The deer we saw were on the small side but saw lots of them.Saw a few cow elk but no bulls.Should be a good area to hunt.

What would be a mature buck for the area? When you say small side,do you mean little forks or 20inchers? Thanks just trying to figure out whats available....-Jim

A mature buck would pretty much be anything over a fork horn pretty much. Last year I hunted hard the whole third season and it took me 6 days to find respectable 3 x 4. You pretty much dug yourself in a hole getting a second season tag. Unit 211 is an area in which the elk and deer migrate into. There are resident deer in the area but there won't be as many as in the later seasons. Also elk hunting will be really poor unless you are really lucky, also considering you don't know the area all that well. But for the last 2 years the third season has also been poor for elk there just never is any snow until mid november. We have killed elk every year but its been extremely tough to do so do to low elk numbers and no new elk moving into the area. Your best shot to kill elk is to get a fourth season tag, perferably a eithersex tag which is draw only, which you probably already know. It just seems the elk come later and later every year. It was even hard finding a cow durning December last year due to the elk weren't fully there yet.

last time I hunted there I took a small 3x3 ,arround 14 inch spred.I saw a couple of nicer bucks on a truck going out but did'nt see anything of any size while hunting.

These are a few bucks from last year 2nd season.

I think the Axial Basin Ranch allows some access to Duffy Mountain through the private land along Highway 13. That's the same guys as Colowyo Coal Mine. Check that out with DOW. Just don't hunt on the mine property. They have recently gone to zero tolerance with trespassers. Last year about 20-30 guys found that out the hard way. PM me and I can give you a phone number to call...

duffy is not tied in with colowyo coal. their is one acsess behinde colowyo it is thru public land. duffy mtn should have about 2000 hunters on it in the second season. should be a good area to stay away from. I believe the big boys from kinicot hunt colowyo coal more utards.
