LAST EDITED ON Apr-23-04 AT 10:45AM (MST)[p]I figured this would get more reads here than anywhere, so I hope it doesn't get moved. Pat Tillman, the Arizona Cardinal defensive back that gave up a $9 million dollar contract and a life's dream to become an Army Ranger after the Sept.11 attacks, was killed in action in Afghanistan yesterday. Kind of puts a lot of things in perspective, doesn't it? Here's to you, Pat.

He is a true American hero! The Tillman family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Mr. Tillman was evidently a "real" man in every sense of the word. He doesn't exactly fit the stereotype of the modern professional athlete does he. Even though his sacrifice doesn't have anything to do with it, the NFL has a pretty good program in place to make their athletes support their communities through the United Way, etc.

I get to work for the U.S. Army a lot and I could not be more impressed with the way soldiers conduct their business. Mr. Tillman's sacrifice isn't any more important than any of our other fallen men, but he will bring much deserved attention to the contributions that they all make.

I just saw the announcement on CNN website and was shocked. I couldnt say it any better than Chambero. He now is certainly a HERO in my eyes......My prayers go out to his family as well as for all the soldiers fighting............... Allen Taylor......

this may not sound manly, but it breaks my heart!....not just for Tillman but all who gave their life's for the cause........

I believe that his character made him a hero before he passed. I have felt that way since he left football to join the service. My condolences to his family.

I feel like I've lost a friend. Though I never met him, I had the same physical and emotional reaction that I've felt when someone close to me has passed away. Sun Devils mourn the loss of a leader from the Rose Bowl team of 1996-97. A family mourns the loss of a son, a brother, a husband. And a grateful nation mourns the death of a patriot. The cost of the war on terrorism now has a face I recognize. Thanks to all who serve. God bless them and their families. All will give some. Some will give all.
