NM Unit 17 Archery Bull 1st Hunt

Wondering if there is anyone out there who has some info on unit 17 for the first archery hunt that they are willing to share. I have a friend who drew that tag and is starting from scratch in that unit. Any help would be great and I know we could make it worth your time if you drew bull in AZ or are planning on hunting Coues here.

I am thinking about a big coues, but sorry buddy, I cannot help you out.

I have been working my way down that way! Just not that far yet? Maybe we will stay in central Utah? My travels will tell me more this fall. I will send you an email and fill you in.

Lots of timber, not much glassing. The numbers are not high, but you should be able to get into elk. Hunt water holes. The rut will be hit and miss. You might find the bull of a lifetime in there.

I just sent you a pm. I hunted it last year. We had a great hunt, but it was very different from archery bull elk in Arizona in my opinion.
 
rackem406 , I just talked to Colby. He's pretty excited and he should be. He actually has a step up on 17 with his brother-in -law , who I actually know really well. We used to rodeo together and his place seems to be in some very prime country for September... Glad to have made this contact...

Keep us posted on how your buddy does. You will have to ask WARBIRDUM about last weekend. Ha! I think he thought I was trying to kill him.;-)
 
Ya'll will have to keep me posted on if you see any mature muleys. I drew the late season rifle hunt and looking for any help I can get on 17.

My son drew a Youth either sex tag for 17 for the youth hunt Oct 6-10th.

Any advice on where to look for some good maps. Im starting my research now.
