OK, I finally drew this tag after years of applying. I have hunted this area for deer many times before and now I finally have a chance to chase the Wapiti there!!!! Anyone else draw this tag? Or any opinions on past experiences in this unit? I have seen some absolute pigs in the area and just hope I can catch one behind the shoulder come this fall. Thanks Game and Fish for posting results early! Now I have another week of scouting.

Great draw WyomingMan. U will Have a good time in that unit. I dont think it is good as it once was for big bulls but still should have a few chances at some good bulls 310plus. I have hunted it 3 times and have taken some good bulls off there, the biggest our group has got was a 383 bull about 4 years ago. I think u will see a least one good bull there(340)or better. Good luck and if U archery hunt that is the way to go in unit 7. Have fun

Not sure why yer thinking the quality has dropped. My buddies dad has done a lot aerial winter surveys for the G & F and says 7 consistently has some of the biggest bulls in the state. Access is a problem, but horn quality is not. At the G & F spring meetings they indicated the herd size beween area 7 & 19 surveyed 8000 - 9000 animals last winter. That's up from 5000 just a few years ago. Yer gonna have some serious bone anywhere with those kinds of numbers...

I just have not seen the big bulls comming out of there like i once did. Far as #s of elk u are dead on there is tons of elk thats for sure. One of the years i drew, was in like 2000 and there was so many big heads killed that year it was crazy. I shot a 350 plus bull and thought i killed a monster till i saw a 410 bull killed like 2 miles away from mine on the same day. The next ranch over took another 400 bull too. I just have not seen any 400 class bulls taken out of 7 in a couple of years. I think drought is the biggest factor for that area. I did hear of a monster comming out of 19 last year though. Just my 2cents worth.

If you want to talk to someone who has done a lot of scouting and has the horns to prove his ideas....talk to the owner of bullseye archery in laramie. Has one bull with his bow that is very big and a dead head the is as big or bigger. Very good bunch of guys too.
