Well This year is the first year that I have had to start my preseason scouting. I did not have the oppuritunity to draw out so I will be hunting northern utah. I have hunted it in the past and did fairly well but I wanted to get out and get serious this year. My question is when should I start getting out and and what type of signs should I look for. I know that water is going to be a must this year with the last few years being a drought but what other things should I be looking for? When Do the bucks start to move into the High Country and what are the best times to look?

Thanks for all your help
Just an FYI I plan on doing the archery hunt

Welcome aboard, Tallbuck1.. I'd say it's never too early to go out. I'm not sure scouting is the right term, but the more time you spend out looking for sheds and learining the country and habits of critters, the better you will be. I always say after the 4th of July you can start scouting seriously. By that time, the bucks have enough bone for you to tell if they are worth pursuing in a few months. And they may someitmes be in the area where they'll be in the fall. But often that is not the case.

Lots of the timing of your scouting depends upon the season and area you will be hunting.

Anyhow, always get out and look. It is much better than sitting home. Good hunting.
