This is going to sound rediculous but I am just asking this for a person that I know. This person drew a Phavant Elk Tag with 0 points this person is an out of state hunter. He was put in by some friend of his and has know Idea what he actually drew they are both from the east coast. He has looked at his schedule and has decided that he has other conflicting hunts that he would rather go on. I think he is going to africa or something. He wanted to know if he could transfer this tag to someone else. I told him that he couldn't but that he could turn it back in and get his 1 point back. I also told him that if he turned it back in he would not have to be on a five year waiting list. Money is not really an object to this person and after thinking about it if he wanted he could buy a elk tag every year. He told me that if he couldn't transfer it into someones name that he wanted, that he was just going to let the tag go to waste, did I give this person the right info or was I off. Sometimes reading the proclamation gets confusing to me.

I thought the same thing until I thought about it from his point of view. He has know Idea how good of tag this is (even though I have tried to tell him) they don't give his money back if he turns his tag back in, and he doesn't care about waiting periods and points because he could buy a tag every year anyways. And maybe if something goes wrong with his other hunts he can make it to utah for a day or two.

What the heck is this guy thinking. You can go to Aferica anytime. You will only get to hunt the Pahvant once in a life time. If it were me I would be changing my plans and rescheduling whatever got in my way of hunting on this tag.
If he decides not to use the tag he should really turn it in and give someone else a chance, I know guys that have max points and still cant draw that tag.

Isn't Sept. the wrong time of year to go to Africa to hunt. Would'nt it be the beginning of summer there. Everyone I know who went to Africa to hunt has gone in like late winter early spring here.

Well from my position (which I will admit is totally self-serving) I kinda hope he does waste the tag because thats one less hunter my brother and I will be dealing with down there come this September... I CAN'T WAIT!!!

You can hunt Africa for less than $10K with transportation and shoot the sh!t out of alot of plains game animals. I know, I have been there twice. The Pahvant is arguably one of the best places to shoot a big Elk. The other places, such as, the Apache Reservations, large private ranches that have those kind of Elk on them will cost you about $20K or more, with transportation, tips, etc. This is a no-brainer, which is exactly what this guy seems to be. F-um let him turn the thing in or waste it. Next year there will be one more big bull running around.

My crack is really greasy these days thinking about that lope tag since i can hunt it and i cant wait to shoot that 60" lope. As far as the UT tag goes, the last thing they need on a unit that has so many bulls they are having a management hunt on this year is to not hunt it.
