I was talking with a friend today about making a reasonably quick field judgment on bulls. He gave me his point of view, and I thought I'd throw it out to the experts. If you are making a quick field judgment on a bull, what indicators do you look for in a 300", 350", or 400" bull?
As for me, if I start shaking and forget everything I know - it's big enough to shoot.

If it's bigger, with more points than my last bull, I shoot.

300= hmmmm.........maybe
350= ooohhhhhhhhhyeahhhhh....knees start to shake
400= don't know yet......probably just sit there stuttering as I wet myself........

i look at the head of the elk.. you can see how long the front-end of the bull is by the length of there head and nose..then you have to quickly move on to the next points.. now 3rds come off on a diffrent angle, so if he will give you a front view the you can judge that way, and also look at the gap's between each point( long gaps..longer beams) you get alot of points off of beam length and width

I look at the top four points, and most importantly the G-5's when making a quick judement. If the G-5 matches or comes close to the length of the royal more often than not he's a shooter bull.

the length of a bulls head avverages 16 inches so I figure tines from that.
