LAST EDITED ON May-28-04 AT 12:51PM (MST)[p]I'm thinking of either applying for a late whitetail hunt. My choices are 204, East Okanogan A, or 215, Sinlahekin. Does anyone have an opinion on which one is the better choice? I am also concerned about the amount of public land available.
Thanks!

East Okanogan A is the better choice, but less public land. You have a better chance at a bruiser though.

My brother-in-law hunts in Sinlahekin and has said he's seen some pretty dandy whitetails coming out of there. I thought he had told me that there was kind of a lot of private land, maybe I'm wrong though.

Thanks guys!

Bone,

I was looking a game dept gmu map of 204. It looks like it has quite a bit of state land but I'm concerned a lot of it may be too high in elevation for whitetails. Is there enough public land with good deer populations to have a decent hunt?

Okanogan East!!!!!! That is part of my stompin' grounds. There are some big old whities on the Republic side of it. Swan Lake and Golden Harvest Creek areas are real good and quite a bit of public land. There are bucks on the south side of the Golden Harvest drainage that never really get hunted. My buddy, who lives over there, took me to his neighbors to show me the 6x7 - 170+ class whitie that he arrowed last year during late archery.

Thanks! My main cocern is public access. Heck, I've never hunted in that unit. If I draw, I'll be sure to do my homework. I've never shot a whitetail buck, so I'm ready to give it a try!

I'd hunt East Ok. over Sin anyday. More deer, more elbow room, less people. I was probably wrong about there being more private land in East Ok. There might be, but the area is alot bigger. If you hunt the general up there, you'd be more likely to bust a big whitie over mulie now. The deer don't look at their altimeters either, they are at the highest elevations. I got all mine in the sherm unit, at elevations where there weren't supposed to be any. If you are a diehard muley finantic, whities are like fleas or ticks over there in plague proportions. West Ok is also a good draw. Even more area, and the whities are really taking a foothold in the valley (chiliwist unit). I saw a booner while on a horseride at the top of the Loup. I also saw a monster non-typ a guy got. It had double main beams. Short tines, but who cares with that. It was cool looking. Also from the Chili. Just my 0.02.

I'll say it again. "Save a muley, shoot a whitetail."
